It's not so much a case of British Airways in general but more a case of the small things that you instantly compare to budget airlines. I flew from Beijing to London last year and found the flight to be reasonable. The built in music system was the bonus that tipped BA in favour for me. Having used Air China from London - Beijing I had an easy task of comparison. As I paid for neither flights, cost wasn't an issue, however I was aware of the price difference and on board luggage allowance. On reflection the bonus of B.A on this journey is as follows: 1. Larger allowance for cabbin luggage. 32KG is plenty. Saves on paying for hold luggage and avoids ques. The Air China cabbin luggage was a measly 5kg. 2. B.A has built in music players and video screens. Air China had a few mini flat screens per 5 or so rows, with NO FILM!.

3. There isn't one. B.A doesn't provide anymore leg room on a standard flight. Your bum will always be sore on long haul flights regardless of luxury. So if you don't mind burning cash go B.A. Just depends on what you'd rather spend your money on.

Summary: shop around first
