Advantages: Cheapest one way flight we could find. Acceptable food, friendly crew

Disadvantages: Problems with my friend's tv system weren't dealt with fantastically well

I recently flew from Beijing to London with British Airways with my friend, having completed a 4 week trip from Latvia to China. Booking a one way flight out of China seemed to be slightly problematic, but luckily the lovely people at STA travel sorted this all out for us. Anyway, the main problem we had before boarding the flight was with checking in online. This only opens 24 hours in advance, and although we were relatviely prompt with checking in, a lot of the seats were already booked by the time we got round to it.

Anyway, the rest of the checking in baggage etc.... at the airport went very smoothly. We spent out last remaining yuan at the airport and relaxed in the very chic terminal. We boarded in good time and sat down to check out what films were showing and to open our little goody bags, containing masks, socks, and those little toothbrushes. All of which I made good use of. The selection of films was pretty good, and I spent much of the flight back flicking between them, as it was one of those interactive systems where everyone has their own seatback screen. My friend's system on the other hand was broken. The crew tried to sort this out, but could only apologise and tell her she had to watch tv in the "old fashioned" way, just watching films as they had been scheduled. On other airlines I've seen people provided with portable mini dvd players and a selection of films, my friend was very disappointed not to be offered something similar.

The crew on board were friendly, and frequently came through the plane with glasses of fruit juice. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. There was an english choice, and a chinese choice of meal, eg chicken noodles or beef stew. We had one hot meal, and then a lunchbox containing a cheese roll and some other goodies. We arrived at Heathrow on time and suitably watered, so no complaints from me all in all.

Summary: A good flight, no major complaints
