Advantages: Good timetable, friendly staff, good food and occasionally very cheap flights

Disadvantages: none!

I've used British Midland quite a few times over the past year, either flying from Edinburgh to London Heathrow, or from Edinburgh to East Midlands. On the former route, BM compete with BA, whereas they have a monopoly on the East Midlands flights.

The timetables offered by BM are good - departure times which actually suit passengers, rather than the airline. Checkin procedures are quick, and they are quite happy to check you in just 15 minutes before departure.

BM's staff are friendly and usually very helpful.

One of the great features of BM is their fares. They regularly dump excess seats via Qxl.com, expedia.co.uk, campus travel or other such agents. This can mean some fantastic bargains - I picked up a BM Commuter Flight (one which operates a business class cabin only) from Edinburgh to East Midlands (return) for just £40, including tax earlier this year! This compares to a usual fare of about £120.

Finally, the inflight menu at BM is also good - generally an M & S style sandwich or roll, which actually tastes good!

Only gripe is that once when a flight from the US was early, Bm refused to let me hop on an earlier Edinburgh shuttle, even though there were seats available. Apart from that, I've never had any problems.
