Not bad for a small island based carrier! (Cyprus Airways)

Advantages: Comfy, simple and reasonably priced

Disadvantages: Pork on the Egypt bound flight seemed a bit daft

Cyprus Airways is if you hadn't guessed Cyprus' national carrier. A few years back, I took a flight from Larnaca to Cairo aboard one of their fleet, although I would have preferred to have left to Lebanon or Israel by boat, the option seemed a bit tricky at the time and info was hard to come by. The flight at the time cost 60 Cypriot Pounds including tax, however the price seems to have gone up and now costs arond 134 euros including tax.

The flight can hardly be described a mammoth journey, it's 1 hour 20 minutes but due to the time difference, you arrive in Cairo a mere 20 minutes after departing Larnaca. It was an evening flight and we didn't get particularly high up in the air, as you can imagine - it felt an incredibly sturdy machine in particularly good nick.

I think the thing that surprised me the most about this flight is what they were able to fit in on such a small flight, I received a free meal and drink - nothing spectacular but edible, oddly enough a pork based sandwich (not ideal for the Egyptian clientelle!), they also had time to try and sell some of their products, although this was done rather sharpily and wasn't as relentless as you'd find on a budget airline. In fact, they just gave the customers a brochure and subtly asked if anyone wanted to order anything, some minutes later.

Overall, I'd recommend Cyprus Airways - although my experience with them was only a short hop over the Med, I think it would be rather comfortable for a long haul flight.
