I bought online round trip flight Ercan to Kayseri. I wanted to come back in 4th of April. Yesterday, one lady called me and told me that the flight was canceled and it will be on 5th. For me was ok. But today she called again to told me that flight was canceled too, and the next one will be on 7th.I have to be at work on 6th, so I canceled all my plans and all my trip in Cappadoccia. I hope I'll receive my money back and I will not use this company again.
On my return flight from Dalaman I was asked at check in if I had ordered vegetarian which I confirmed. On the flight I was given sausages and omelette like the other passengers and when I queried this it was taken away and my 'vegetarian' meal was returned, which in fact was the same dinner, but the sausages had been taken off it! The giveaway factor was that the dye from the sausages hand tinted the omelette!!! The crew apologised and said there was no vegetarian meal on board. The crew tried to trick me with this meal. I wrote to the airline and the response I received was nothing short of insulting, implying that they had informed the crew that passengers can be difficult and are a threat at all times! All this over a sausage. AWFUL COMPANY, DO NOT USE
Myself and my partner have used KTHY for a return trip to Izmir from either Stansted or Heathrow twice a year for the past few years. We have never had cause to complain. The price of flights is excellent and there are very few airlines that provide free meals and drinks these days. I don't know what people expect for the money they pay. There was one particular time that we had booked but couldn't fly due to a death in the family. When we did not show up for the flight they tried to contact us many times to offer a refund and reschedule our flights.
We had the unfortunate experience of flying with CTA and I can safely say that this is the worse airline in the world. The staff have no idea what they're doing, they are just plain rude when asked a question. On my return flight from Northern Cyprus, we were greeted by miserable stuck up cabin crew who all seemed to be dressed like workers of the night! After taking off, we were all thrown a box in front of us and were told that this was the in-flight meal which consisted of cold chicken in a sauce. When I asked to have the meal heated as it seemed that it hadn't been heated through properly, I was told that it had already been heated and that if I don't like it, then I shouldn't eat it. Never Again! I advise you choose another airline via Larnaca.
We have just returned from our 5th visit to Northern Cyprus, again using KTHY - never again! The service has deteriorated consideraby since last year. Whilst I appreciate that all companies are trying to reduce costs and increase income in these difficult times the measures KTHY have taken are a step too far. The seat pitch has reduced to the point where getting tray tables down is very difficult and insufficient leg room makes for a very uncomfortable flight of nearly 6 hours. The seating has changed since last year so I can only assume more rows have been put in to make more money. The breakfast meal has changed to something I simply could not identify and having trained as a chef that's pretty difficult to achieve. My husband thought we were having scrambled eggs but mine was so separated out I half filled a coffee cup with the liquid and was left with some grey protein like substance - not nice! Meals are not served as promptly meaning you can't bed down for some sleep - not that this is possible with the position you have to sit in. Both our seats were faulty so we couldn't hold them in the upright position as they constantly fell back - meaning the people behind had even less space, we kept apologising, the cabin crew told us off at take off and landings and a potential safety issue was present.
Next year we will fly to the South and taxi up - Kyrenia (Girne) is only an hour from Larnaca airport and the return transfer is about £100 plus we can get cheaper flights. Sorry KTHY you've lost our business.
We have travelled with KTHY on many occasions since 1999 to Ercan and have seen the service go downhill. The latest flight we made was so full that the space betwen the seats was in my opinion dangerous.
I have never seen a steward/stewardess smile and be polite, nothing can be further from reallity. The announcements made over the speaker system are often garbled, to quick and often irritating.
I have yet to depart or arrive on time like the flights from Pegasus, I believe you have a serious management problem.
To compare you with other airlines the food served up is boring and often in edible, I am sorry I can find no good news to say about KTHY, except to say you need to try much harder to keep my cusutom.
Come on KTHY we are in the 21st century not in the dark ages of cusutmer care. How about some frequent traveller bonuses along with some serious changes in the way you treat your public.
I regularly fly to Larnaca and Ercan. I have tried Thomson, Thomas Cook, Turkish Airlines and KTHY. I have travelled from Stansted to Ercan or from Gatwick to Ercan or Larnaca with KTHY. The first time I flew with KTHY, I was shocked. Shocked because of the passengers behavior and the staff who did not try to do something. As the plane was just about to land, 1 or 2 minutes away from landing on the tarmac, a family of 4, 2 adults, children ages, maybe around 6 and 10, stood up and started walking towards the exit door. Imagine the plane's nose or front going down and these people moving towards the door to my horror!!! I couldn't believe it, and there were no stewards/stewardess stopping them, but I guess, they were too shocked and felt that it was too dangerous to stand up.
Then on the way back from Ercan to Stansted, I noticed that some of the passengers were boarding the plane by themselves with no staff assistance or checks from the ground staff. They were walking under the wing, which is not supposed to be allowed anywhere else in the world. I have a feeling that, the airline staff have tried to put some order but some of the passengers does not follow orders. I am not sure if they know what is wrong or right or the etiquette of flying but it seems to me that, they do not know the right way to behave or couldn't care less.
I have flown to Larnaca several times as well using Thomson. I find that they are far better than Thomas Cook at the check in counter. They are more organized and the staff are okey. In one occassion, we have been delayed for several hours, about 4 hours to be exact. We got a voucher for a meal which I thought wasn't too bad.
I have tried to use Thomas Cook 3 or 4 times and I have always been dissappointed at the check in staff. The worst are the staff from Larnaca and it is always so chaotic even with the holiday representatives on sight. The cues are always long and the staff are not friendly. I am definitely sure that I will never use them again even though they have offers for cheap flight. I feel that it is not worth all the aggravation and chaos.
Just a few months ago, I flew with KTHY again to Ercan. I booked with them again because I felt that it was comfortable to check in and fly with them and Ercan airport was nearer to my place. There were no incidents that time, and the food portions were small but it was free so I shouldn't complain. The staff were polite and everything went well going and returning. Some passengers were behaving as if they owned the plane but the staff, I cannot complain.
I will be flying again this August with Thomson Fly to Larnaca. I made a mistake with the date and I was supposed to fly 2008 but accidentaly clicked 2009, so we will see if they are still as good as I remember the last time i flew with them.
We have just returned from Ercan to Heathrow and the flight was on time and we had a good trip. I only wish that when the announcements are made that they would speak slower in English, they seem to gabble away.We fly every 3 months and to date we have had no delays and we are quite happy with the service, ok the food is not terrific but one doesn't have to eat it, we take rolls with us so we are content. The fares are usually cheaper than most airlines so on balance I think it is value for money. We shall continue to use them unless we can find a better deal.
We have travelled with KTHY on many occasions since 1999 and have seen the service go downhill every year up until 2006 when we decided that we have had enough and decided to fly to Larnaca instead and taxi it to the North. We decided to have a late summer break in the North and only on price decided to fly again with KTHY from Heathrow recently. The online booking was excellent and the reserved seats were waiting for us, the cabin crew were smiling, (thats a first) and we took of on time with a lovely smooth flight. Landed in Ercan on time and the food was much better than i can renember. The return flight was on time and everything went very well.I must say that everything has improved and we will certainley use them again, hopefully the next experience will be as rewarding !!
Having just returned from a wonderful holiday in Northern Cyprus we were absolutely disgusted with the KTHY return flight from Gaziantep. First of all we were delayed by over 4 hours at Ercan then where normally it is about an hour turn around at Gaziantep it took us 2 hours because the turkish passengers that boarded could not just take a seat they (they are not allocated seat numbers)had to argue among themselves as to where they wanted to sit, then when asked by the stewardess's to sit they argued with them. Once airborne we hit some turbulance (which lasted for about a third of the flight) whereby the 'Fasten your seatbelt' sign came on and the pilot asked everyone to take to thier seats and not to use the facilities. This they totaly ignored and were walking up and down the aisle as if there was no problem at all, once again the stewardess's just gave up trying to get these passengers to stay in thier seats, not only were they putting themselves at risk from possible injury but other passengers as well. Then if that wasn't bad enough on leaving the plane we were disgusted with the state they left the plane in ie dirty soiled nappy's . will we fly with KTHY again the answer to that is NO!!!!!!!!!! and we will not recomend them to our friends either
Yours a very dissatisfied ex customer
My wife and I have flown with KTHY on several occasions over the past 2 years both from Gatwick & Heathrow. The online booking works well. Flights have usually been on time. We have had differing check in experiences (handled by Aviance at Gatwick), one being whether your hand baggage gets weighed (5kgs each). This can push you into excess baggage at £6 a kilo. In July 07 at Gatwick we were charged £120 excess (which we had expected) for a cardboard box, containing approx £340 of stuff my wife had been collecting for months for our apartment. Unfortunately this box was never seen again & trying to find it and then get compensation when we didn't has proved frustrating & difficult. We have finally been offered £99 which does not even cover the excess charge. It appears I shall be taking the airline to court. Basically an effecient airline but customer relations needs improvement. The aircraft are fine but cramped. It depends on which aircraft you get as to how little leg room there is. The flights are not normally full so the seating arrangement could be improved, as could the seats themselves. If the person in front reclines their seat it gets very uncomfortable and eating nigh impossible. In flight meals are not good. Flying into Ercan does have the advantage of not having to cross over the border but does add an hour to the flight due to the stop in Turkey. Ercan airport is good but beware the cafe prices when departing, almost £3 for a coffee.
You will be delighted to hear after the 2004 review that KTHY have improved somewhat. The flight out of Glasgow in early September might have been on time if the Glasgow T2 baggage conveyor worked!
The plane out, the Girne (737-800) was fine, clean and the cabin crew smiley, polite and well turned out. The food was odd but edible, the layover in Antalya as expected and bearable especially with the doors open, possibly not otherwise.
Erjan left Glasgow in the shade in regard to efficiency - I am a disabled person - I could have walked off the flight but got the full treatment in the shape of the "air lift thing", a chair with escort to push and whizzed through passport control - with a smile!
The flight back was a bit worse though - avoid the 737 called Guzelyurt like the plague - smallest seats I've ever sat in in my life: I couldn't get comfortable and I am not a large person; the previously complained issue about the bar in the back of the seat and a bit too warm.
Again though, and despite the fact it ws the middle of the night, the cabin crew were nice (almost too chirpy!) and helpful if you needed drinks etc.
It would be good if there were competition to up the ante but I can't see it happening. Perhaps the lure of tourist dosh is helping to get the improvement wagon rolling.
I flew with them yesterday and have been doing since 2003.
although I am not a confident flyer I do trust them. I have read all the reviews and took note of each and everyone of them.
Some reviews complained about how old the aircraft are. There are eight aircraft. All the aircraft are being done up as they are updating the carpets and seat fabric. (not at the same time)Their inflight service is out of service at the moment and they do apoligise about this. I went on one of their aircraft with a leather seat!!!
Someone mentioned the Captain should be tested again. I think not!!! Yesterday the flight took 5 hours to get to Manchester but this was because of turbulent weather which they cannot help and he was extremely brillant handling this. They are experienced as mountains surround Antalya and Ercan (kyrenia mountains) which are hard to become airborn and to descend with.
Yesterday the seatbelt sign was on most of the way as the flight was bumpy. But still the English persisted to try to go to the toilet. Why ? i do not know the cabin crew said they couldnt go as it was dangerous to stand when bumpy but do the English listen ? NO. Im Fully British but i know I am not rude. I wouldnt listen to the comments people have made as they only give one side of the story.
Also the cabin crew do greet you on and off the plane and yesterday kept saying Happy New Year to me which is cute.
The cabin crew are very good at their english. Some reviews comment on the lack of safety information and how they represent it. Question: how many airline crew (all over the world)look interested when they give saftey information? Answer:none this is because they do this all the time so i am not going to doubt them for this.
Teresa2 included many airlines will start flying to Cyprus this is incorrect as Onur air have stopped or will be stopping And Cyprus turkish Airlines (KTHY) have been said to be very safe to fly with. Onur air says there is no competion
They also give you 2 meals on the two flights.
Ercan is sweet with three gates and all duty free is fully open.
You could fly to Turkey and then have a transfer to fly with KTHY. Because really they are a shuttle service to Turkey.
PLease remember that northern cyprus is still a developing country and need the tourism to keep them going.
Our experience was with flight YK838 on 3.9.05. We had 10 hours delay with no communication. The rep wouldn't come out of his office. Finally we were asked to board the aircraft for take-off but on the basis if we were not quick they'd put us up in a hotel overnight! - we had been at the airport 13 hours at this point!. It was a free for all boarding the aircraft - sit where you like - boarding passes and seat numbers went out of the window. We took off at 11.29pm just before the curfew at Heathrow. The cabin crew did the safety briefing in 2 halves, one part whilst on the ground, and the second once airbourne - I can't imagine this is legal!. The aircraft was filthy, the toilets stinking. The toilet didn't flush, the tap broken. We arrived in Izmir and were subjected to more delay (2 hours on the tarmac with no communication). Finally we arrive in Ercan, wait around the luggage reclaim only to find the airline had purposely made the decision to leave our luggage behind. Here we were in Cyprus with only what we stood up in. Daily we were told the luggage will arrive tomorrow. In total we waited 5 days - not just us but nearly 300 people. This ariline in my opinion should not be allowed to operate from Europe until they clean up their act. After 1 month we have received a letter sugesting they are offering a derisory compensation offer and a free flight - what planet are they on!.
Hi, I`ve read some of the reviews on CTA and thought i should even things up a little. The way some people explain their experience`s shows that they have never been on any other airlines before in their lives.
Check in desks are check in desks and not Citizens advice bureau`s.
If your flight is delayed,in most cases it`s generally the airports or passanger`s falt and not the airlines.
As for the reason for having to stop on the way, well thats because the Turkish Cypriots have been and are still being discriminated against by europe and the greek`s.
Personally, I have travelled to both sides of cyprus and prefer the north, a little harder to get to, but worth the effort.
KTHY is now owned by the Northern Cypriot people.
