I am only catching up now reviewing things from my holiday of last summer such as hotels I stayed at, attractions I visited and airlines I used. Today I have decided to write about my experience of Delta Airlines. I used a lot of flights over my travels but Delta Airlines I used twice, once on an internal flight from Las Vegas to New York and another transatlantic flight from New York to Edinburgh. Comparing both experiences I am going to cover all of the main factors in deciding whether the airline was good and up to my standards and if I would use them again.

Originally on my journey home I was meant to be going to London and it was meant to be with Air India but with my flights getting cancelled last minute everything became a bit of a nightmare and I was glad when I was put on a Delta Airlines flight direct to my hometown. I thought the prices were cheap enough and reasonable enough as Delta have quite a good name about them and are more recently starting to fly to the UK airports more frequently and starting to get more well known over here.

Starting with the service, on both flights my flights were on time and departed on time so there was no issue of being delayed. However on my internal flight they had over booked and were offering hundred dollar vouchers for people to wait a few hours for the next flight which I did find a bit unprofessional as I don't understand how they could have overbooked. The check-in was easy enough, no problems and my bags arrived everywhere I seemed to go ok which is always my main fear.

The plane itself, since I was flying on my own I was sat next to a couple who turned out to be going on the exact same planes as me and were friendly enough. The leg room was good enough but on the internal flight, the menu wasn't complimentary and it cost something like $7 for a sandwich or salad and the menu was very healthy, nothing hot however but for a 5 hour flight I suppose it was ok. On my transatlantic flight, the hot meal was quite nice but it was served quite early on in the flight, we got a few snacks also through out the flight which was quite good as well but it was moreso drinks than anything else which was good enough as I wasn't starving.

The cabin crew were clear in doing the safety procedure talk with everyone and also seemed liked a friendly enough crew on both flights. The only unusual thing was on the way back the crew went to sleep as it was an overnight flight but it seemed a bit strange how they zipped a curtain to sleep on the seats across from me and then woke up when I could see them I'd have though they'd have had seats away from everyone to sit in privacy. I also noticed on take off we had to wait a while at New York and they kept letting more people on leaving the plane quite crowded I didn't understand why more kept getting on because the flight left slightly late and so these passengers technically should have missed their flight.

The take off and landing on both planes was ok at times but I definitely had the worst landing of my life when landing in New York everyone screamed and jumped panicking as the aircraft swerved from side to side before terrifyingly coming to a halt. It is the only time I have ever seen my life flash before my eyes and so it has made me scared of landings since this bad experience but other than that every other take off/landing was fine.

The entertainment on board the aircraft I cannot fault, on the internal flight it cost $2 a move and music was free though which I suppose was ok but I am glad I didn't pay for the films. On the transatlantic flight, the entertainment was all free and so they had all new films at the time which were a good choice from action, adventure like The Iron Man to Kung Fu Panda and then Forgetting Sarah Marshall. They also had all current albums which again were listed in genre's giving everyone something they'd like. They then had TV shows listed by type as well as having an interactive map to show where exactly we were which again is always interesting.

On a 7 hour flight, I felt the time flew by as the plane was comfortable with blankets and pillows provided. The entertainment really passed the time as well as the meal being nice. The leg room was good enough and the staff were attentive.

I would definitely fly Delta again as they made a 7 hour flight seem very quick. Using them twice both flights were very good and passed quickly. Delta Airlines fly from a lot of the UK airports, and they can be offered on most websites like Expedia, Justtheflight and so on. Their official website where you can also book http://www.delta.com . The website offers low cost fares and has all information you need to know.

You'll probably find those "late" passengers were on delayed connecting flights......Good to hear Delta didn't leave them in the lurch

Good review, but I would not call them unprofessional for overbooking. All airlines do this all the time and usually it works our just fine.
