Advantages: We eventually got there
Disadvantages: Abandoned for 3 days with no explanation
I have flown with easy jet a few times without tomany problems but my last experience was not so good, and left me less than impressed with this company.
We were going on a family holiday to Bulgaria to spend new year away.
We arrived at Gatwick airport two hours before check in as requested. It was 4.30 am and as we dragged our limbs through the massing crowds of Gatwick airports south terminal we suddenly relised we couldnt find our check in desk.
After searching the boards to no luck we stopped an asked a member of staff who told us that the check in was now at the North terminal instead, so we jumped on the North terminal train and off we went.
After finally checking we found out that there was a two hour delay for our easy jet flight to the airport in Sofia. Being brits we looked at this as not time wasted but time gained...and quickly headed to the nearest bar for a liquid breakfast.
two hours later it was time to head to the boarding area. We were told to go to boarding gate 34 somthing close, cant quite remember) but on arrival no one was there and we were told the flight would now board from gate 90. So back we headed the way we came to the very first gate we had walked past.
We were still in high holiday spirits and glad to nearly be on the plane!
Once seated we were told about all the safety procedures and where our life jackets could be found etc.
After about 10 minutes of nothing, the Pilot came over the radio and anounced that there would be a 2 hour delay as all flights were having problems and we had missed our spot for take off.
He even kindly explained how he had seen "no point" in telling us as things kept changing and we could take off at any time. To top it all he sounded like he didnt care or want to there.
After 2 hours of starring at the easy jet flight magazine, the plane began to move and the pilot said we were going to go and join the line of planes waiting to take off. After slowly creeping along the run way for about 20 minutes i thought he had given up on trying to take off and was attempting to drive the plane there.
After 3 hours we finally took off.
The way back...
As we sat in Sofia airport watching other flights leave and the clock tick on, the snow outside became gradually worse. The flight was due to leave at 9 pm. By 10 pm we new something was wrong thought it must just be delayed. Other flights were taking off so why wouldn't we?
By 11.59 pm the boarding area was quiet as the realization kicked in. The few hardcore brits remained in a sort of snake like queue determined to hold onto the belief that easy jet would get us home.
At 12.15 am a Bulgarian representative of the airport came through, casually stopped and looked around.
" Anyone flying to london with easy jet, your flight is cancelled , collect your bags, the airport is closed".
I couldn't believe my ears. They were throwing us out into the snow just after midnight and closing the airport.
We were made to hand over our boarding passes and go through to collect our luggage.
A lady pinned the easy jet number to the wall but with a plane full of people trying to ring it was useless.
There was no representative from easy jet available.
we were lucky as we still had enough Bulgarian Levi for a taxi to a Hotel biut some people had no money and had small children to worry about.
It took 2 days to finally get through to easy jet. we eventually managed to re-book a flight for 3 days later.
We were told that we could send in our receipts and claim the hotel expenses back from easy jet. This however has not been easy and easy jet are still trying there best to not pay a penny after abandoning their pasangers in Sofia in the middle of the night with no explanation or apology.
They even asked if we could get the receipts in english after we sent them in??? That is unbelievable. They were politely told that no we could not do that as the reciepts came from Bulgaria!!
From now on I will be avoiding easy jet at all costs!
Summary: Easy jet are not a good company

- 10/02/09 Yes, Easyjet - I dread ever being on a plane run by them that gets into trouble -
"Easyjet are sorry to inform you that the plane is crashing, but our staff will be on hand to sell you lifejackets and parachutes at very reasonable prices..." |
