Cheap but cheerless (easyJet)

Advantages: Inexpenisve flights Disadvantages: Poor customer service at boarding Low cost airlines...a blessing or a curse of our modern society? Would it really be so difficult and / or costly for these guys to allocate customers a seat on a first come, first serve basis - as have done all other sensible air carriers for all of air transport history? In Easy Jet's case, apparently not. For with EasyJet and Ryan Air, and all the other pack 'em in, treat your customers like cattle companies, you have to endure a scrum-like scramble for seats as the boarding process begins. Returning from a break in Prague last weekend, me, myself and our three year old were almost, quite literally crushed in the press of over-eager, poorly disciplined, and surprisingly, mostly middle-aged, middle England louts who rushed, as a man, to the front of the queue the minute the boarding assitants opened the gate 'for those travellers requiring special assistance, and with young children at this time only, please'. The yob-like, mob-like behavoiur of the crowd of these apparently resepectable-looking types was incredible - and the assistants were completely unable, or unwilling to exert any level of control over the boarding process. There has to be a better way of getting people onto aircraft than this. Summary: Know what you're letting yourself in for, and it ain't so bad |
