Advantages: Excellent service for a low fair
Disadvantages: The luggage limit
I flew with FlyGlobeSpan in September 2007 from London Gatwick to Vancouver. When I originally booked the flights I had not heard of FlyGlobeSpan but they were the cheapest flights I could find so I booked them anyway prepared for the discomfort that travelling low cost entails.
On arrival at the airport we checked in with ease and boarded the plane on time. The planes are basic with television screens at various points throughout the plane (if you are short, like me, and sat in the middle seat then you are unlikely to see the screens). You need headphones in order to hear the movies/programmes but your own personal ones should work. My inability to see didn't bother me as I had come prepared with a good book that entertained me for the whole flight. After take-off the air-hostesses came round with a free glass of wine, juice or water for every passenger. I thought this was a nice touch, definitely not something you would expect on a low-cost airline. Throughout the flight you receive one proper meal and one snack box this was plenty sufficient for a 12 hour flight, water was also provided at intervals. The leg space in seats is always fine for me but my taller companions also said that the space was adequate.
Our flight stopped at Calgary on route to drop off most of the passengers on the plane. This meant that for the last stretch of the journey there weren't many people on board. The captain recommended that everyone take a window seat (there were enough for everyone) and he then set off to give us a guided tour of the Rocky Mountains from the sky! The flight crew were all very pleasant and helpful. Our flight proceeded to land on time. Our return flight was of the same style and we had no problems at any point.
FlyGlobeSpan is a low-cost airline so you can't board expecting the same treatment as a British Airways flight. Having said that, I was extremely impressed with the service provided. Especially considering we paid £300 return during peak season. FlyGlobeSpan do operate the policy that the 20kilo limit includes your hand luggage. I must confess that we didn't abide by this rule and didn't have our hand luggage weighed at either end. Although taking this route could lead to a fee.
Summary: Would highly recommend
