Advantages: Seems many, until you try to encash the miles!!

Disadvantages: You can ot use your accumulated miles!!

I was a Platinum Elite member of the Flying Dutchman program, which has recently changed to Flying Blue program, very appropriate name change as it is giving me the blues!! I had accumulated 140,000 plus miles and KLM used to be my favorite airline until I realized that I can not encash my "accumulated" miles. They have a long list of excuses to deny you flights using your milage. After denying use of the miles, then they begin with dropping your membership itself for not flying with them, as it happened with my daughter, who lost 40,000 km and her membership was dropped without informing us.

My wife and daughter used to fly KLM until we discovered that they do not have seats available for us to avail the miles acquired, as they have limited number of seats allocated for the poor folks who trust them. As a family we had more than 200,000 miles, but we could not fly together, unless we were paying a full airfare!

My wife and daughter stopped flying KLM when they were hauled all over (for 36 hours) so that KLM did not have to provide them accommodation. So, now their milage is fair game. KLM reduced the milage for my wife for no reason, when both my wife and daughter flew the exact same flights and both gotten their membership at about the same time.

In my view the other reviewers are happy about accumulating the miles. When they go to cash them, THAT IS WHEN they will get their surprises!!

If I can not encash on my 140,000 miles, how can you? I will wait and see if they will let me use my miles. I have been trying for the last two years. In this year alone I have been dragged and dropped in January, and they are unwilling to confirm my travel plans although I had filled out the necessary forms more than a month ahead of my planned flights.

So, do not celebrate the accumulation of the miles. Make sure they are not useless storage of miles that can not be cashed. Only dropped, including your membership, as it happened to my daughter who had accumulated 40,000 points with them!!
