Advantages: none for me!
Disadvantages: bad service, food quality is bad, not children friendly..........
Lufthansa is a part of Aviation group and has been in existence from the last 78 years or so. But with all these years experience and reputation, I don't think their standard of service is at par with some of the other competing airlines.
Experience-
I used Lufthansa to fly recently to India since it had some offers then. This was the first time and was quite apprehensive as we generally opt Emirates to travel to India. Much to our thinking the whole experience was a disaster! My son was then 2 so he kind of understood what an aeroplane was and we hyped up the whole flying experience even before the journey- hoping that he would be comfortable in his 13 hours journey. We were expecting small TV screens in each seat as Emirates did- so we can choose the movie/ TV programme. But in the flight they just had 4 TV screens in the economy class- So we had to watch whatever they show. Although they had a big menu of programmes, we could not watch what we wanted. My son was so keen on watching Wall-e but they had one English and one bollywood movie for our whole journey- and then it would repeatedly show the flight status and the time to reach destination.
Food-
We could choose from 2 types of meal- veg or chicken. The food was average but the bread served with it was very hard. I remember Emirates had a different meal for the kids- they do give a complimentary lunch box or a small backpack with some soft toy and food stuff. But in Lufthansa there was no such thing as kid's gifts! I know it's complimentary but no harm in expecting something in return for paying 2/3rd of adult fare for a 2 year old child who wouldn't even sit in his seat!!!
Staff-
One steward was very helpful and he generously gave my son drinks and snacks when he asked for them. But on our return journey, the staffs were pretty annoying too. I had to buzz 3 times to get attention for a glass of water!
Frankfurt airport-
This airport is not designed for someone with a weak foot/leg. Our first flight dropped us at one part of the airport and the connecting flight was around a mile away. The direction board was just pointing to the next passage and every time you are there, you had to walk for some distance again. It became very tedious for us to go around this airport especially with our child and luggage. I did see some small wagons that take passengers from one point to another but there were no one to drive it around. I like the Dubai airport where everything is in visible and walkable distance and with so many shops around you don't even feel the distance walked.
Miles and more-
The Lufthansa's loyalty scheme of collecting miles every time we travel to get a rewarding flight is probably not my cup of tea. Although I signed up for it well in advance before the journey but after I travelled I decided I won't be using it again.
The whole experience- both onwards and return journey- was so miserable that I and my husband swore that we would never ever travel in Lufthansa again.
Summary: I wont recommend anyone to travel in Lufthansa!

- 19/06/09 Flew with them on our honeymoon and had connection through Frankfurt. Were running late and had to do the jog/run through half of the airport to get stuck going through more security. Only to get on a shuttle bus and go to a plane parked right next to the one we'd gotten off in the first place!!! |
