I travelled with Monarch airlines recently from Birmingham to Palma and was a bit aprehensive as firstly, I had never heard of them before, and secondly, being a "budget" flight, I was expecting the worst! The booking system online was simple and very quick, I could have prebooked seats together for an extra amount but as we were to be at the airport well in advance I didn't bother and I could then have printed my own boarding pass saving queuing at the check in. However, the check in at Birmingham was very quick - they had 3 desks open and staff were friendly and plesant. The flight was ontime, we were seated together, but my biggest impression was the standard and cleanliness of the aircraft. With budget airlines, things can sometimes be a little on the grotty side, but our plane was spotless! We had plently of room in the seats, there was no rubbish stuffed into the back of the seat infront and the crew were all really lovely and looked like they were enjoying their job!
The drink/food service onboard was 100%, on the return journey, there was alot of turbulence and the crew were so so good, especially where children were concerned. We have a 10 year old who the Monarch staff treated like a superstar (which of course he loved!). The cabin crew could not have done enough for you, they were so nice and friendly, nothing was a problem, unlike other airlines I could mention!
The "purple" theme in their colours is great and I would recommend travelling with Monarch to anyone. Hopefully, they'll set up a base in Ireland!

Summary: Cheap and Chearful but lovely!
