Advantages: Good staff and comfortable planes
Disadvantages: Getting more adequate loading agreements
I returned from Malaga on Tuesday on Monarch Airways after going out on Ryan Air and was impressed with the service and cleanliness of the plane and Cabin Crew.
When we originally booked the flight on the internet, it was simple but for some reason we had to book our seats which was another extra to the fare and for some reason I mistook the extra leg room which added another £44 in total for the two of us. In the long run I am glad we did, because of the space was welcome and it was like flying first class with their upholstery.
There was a slight problem when we presented our boarding passes. There wasn't a bar code but the woman without any fuss put it right straight away on the computer, and was very polite and cheerful.
After going through customs and missing out on the check in because we did this before we left England a week prior, I was disappointed that we had to go on a bus ride onto the airfield before boarding.
Despite missing our slot for take-off; our captain was very apologetic in stating the fault (The Malaga ground crew) and made us very welcome as did the rest of the crew. They were very well dressed and gave the airline a good image.
The food and drink as well as shop were average airline prices (a lot cheaper than Ryan Air) with a choice of hot snacks as well. The average price £3.25p a can of lager is still too much, but you don't have to buy it.
The Captain made good time getting back despite strong head-winds and made a good landing. However, again the plane came to halt at one of the outer parking bays and we had to get a bus back to the terminal and customs. We heard a few people whinge about this, but I think it might be because of airport duties to the airlines are cheaper on outside bays so the likes of budget airlines can charge less.
Again, it was a delight to be able to walk through after customs and not have to wait for our luggage to arrive from the hold. I will travel by Monarch again.
Summary: A good first time flight at a reasonable price
