Advantages: Ultra new aircraft, well ours was, Amazingly clean plane, Great crew
Disadvantages: None!!
After flying Monarch I can honestly say ive not been with a better charter airline. They are brilliant! I went with a mate to Gran Canaria and when we booked through the travel agent, we ended up going with Monarch. I was secretly hoping that they would be good because my friend was more used to flying to ‘Barbados with BA’ in comparison to me who usually ends up flying Easyjet and calling it a once-in a lifetime holiday!! Anyway we flew from Gatwick (now there’s a surprise!), infact I should have a loyalty card for the car-park by now I use it so many times! We were departing from the South terminal and we were using the last gate right at the end of the building that looked as if no other airline would dare use! Hardly any seating as usual and ten minutes after our departure time, we were still in the terminal and there wasn’t even a plane parked outside! Then, all of a sudden the gleaming jet came past and approached our gate and I was impressed! It looked very new and clean. About 30 mins later, we started boarding and we stepped into the plane and I couldn’t believe how nice it was! The Airbus A320 was about a year old and inside was so modern I thought I had been beamed aboard the Enterprise. It was the cleanest plane I had ever been in and all the seats were this light blue colour but it made the interior look very upmarket. My friend was amazed at how nice it was too. We took our seats, overlooking the wing and we departed not long after. The plane took off and was really quiet! My friend then pointed out that there was no in-flight entertainment and I must admit I hadn’t noticed but I was slightly disappointed that a flight of over 4 hours wouldn’t. Minutes later – these mini tv monitors electrically lowered from the ceiling panels every 4/5 rows and I was amazed! I had never seen technology like this, it was brilliant. The quality of the Monarch video presentation wa
s also of a very high quality and was followed by a new film and numerous comedy programmes. The crew offered us headphones, which you have to pay for but we did buy because it wasn’t a short flight. Then half way through the flight, lunch! And it was very nice, high quality food. The crew were very nice, the A320 was quite a small aircraft but we had about 5 crew members which was great. They were very professional and the uniforms are nice looking. The legroom on this plane I found to be excellent, I am 6”1 and honestly could not believe there was so much space. It wasn’t quite upto scheduled airlines but the best legroom for a charter flight. We arrived in Gran Canaria on time surprisingly and would you believe it – Monarch are actually allowed to use the airbridges that link the plane to the terminal!! Most other charter airlines make you walk a mile over the tarmac but not with Monarch. You really felt special! In general, I can say that Monarch is one of the best airlines I have ever experienced. The service and quality was great, and although the almost brand new aircraft may of made me slightly bias, I would still say that Monarch have put much effort into making our flight as enjoyable as it was! I can’t wait to fly them again, and on my next holiday, I am literally going to shop around for a package that involves flying Monarch! Great!

- 14/10/02 Well, it's nice to know I'm not the only one on this planet who appreciates charter airlines. It's also nice to know that unlike the sheddy A320 we had with Airtours, that there are actually nice A320's out there! However I would prefer a B757.
Great op!
