Advantages: Good leg room, Great food, Inflight entertainment

Disadvantages: Onboard drinks expensive

I write this for everyone who is 5 ft 6 and over and who hates flying in cramped conditions of charter flights and, even if you are not that tall, those of us who don't want to get deep vein thrombosis. My partner is 6 ft 2 and, unless he has an aisle seat, spends the entire flight with his knees pushed against the seat in front.

We recently flew to Alicante for a short holiday in Denia. The flight out was with Airtours and the flight back with Monarch.
The flight is short, lasting approximately 2 hours but the Monarch flight was far superior to Airtours.

The Monarch flight was on an Airbus A300 (one of the bigger planes in their fleet) seating 361 passengers, 11 crew and 2 pilots.
The seating configuration was 3-3-3 (three seats on the left, middle and right). We were in the middle and my partner had an aisle seat. He found that he had at least a 2 inch gap between his knees and the seat in front. The Airtours flight out was cramped and even on a recent flight to the Gambia (5 hours), we did not have that much room!

Once in the air TV screens descended from above - one for about each 7 rows. To begin with it showed the usual safety broadcast. This was followed by the inflight entertainment programme of several comedy shows for which you need to buy headsets to watch. We did not decide to buy these as the flight is so short. We purchased drinks which were a little expensive - a vodka and orange and Jack Daniels and Coke came to £6.50!

The meal followed and was very good - Tuna Salad to start, followed by Roast Chicken and vegetables, followed by Profiteroles. The meal was also accompanied with a bread roll and butter, crackers and soft cheese and a chocolate.

So well done Monarch - thanks for the extra leg room and the great food. We'll be flying Monarch again!

Excellent review. However, I flew with Monarch to the US on a A300-600R and was only 6 foot at the time and even though I had an aisle seat my knees were constantly touching the seat in front which spoiles the entire experience - therefore I am not sure how the person you were travelling had two inches of space between his knees and the seat in front.

Leg room is so important I flew air France and suffered on a trip to New York. They seem designed for people about 5'4" only.
