      An excellent airline!

      I ABSOLUTLEY ADORE THIS AIRLINE!

      Upon booking a holiday to the dominican republic in Going Places, we selected to fly with My Travel. We flew from Manchester airport and landed in the caribbean with no fuss what so ever.

      The aeroplane itself was quite large and had two floors, the bottom being for toilets and where the staff hung around. The aeroplane was spacious and the staff were ever so friendly.

      On the flight we were given a main meal at the beginning of the flight and a snack later on, both were really nice and a change to the usua airline food that you recieve.

      The entertainment on board was fantastic, I really could not fault it. Each seat had it's own personal screen which was situated within the back of the passenger infront's seat. You had your own personal remote for these channels and could watch whatever you like (no sharing unlike some airlines). There was a large variety of movies, music, comedy, cartoons, documentrys etc, and you could easilly keep yourself entertained on a 7 hour flight.

      This airline had another feature which I had never seen before, you could play games along side other people on the aeroplane and compete, exellent fun!! Also there was a camera outside the aeroplane which you could select to watch and therefore you could see yourself taking off and landing, really really good feature.

      The staff onboard were excellent, friendly and extremely helpful.

      I would not hesitate to fly with this company again, we flew as standard and our flight was brilliant, I would love to try 1st class!!

      MyTravel Airways, now Thomas cook Airways was a popular UK airline operating flights from the UK to many different holiday destinations. Its headquarters were in Manchester, England and had several different hubs across the UK: Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Newcastle, East Midlands.

      History -

      The whole company was founded by David Crossland, who started his own airline with one McDonnell Douglas MD-80 flying people to different international destinations. He then joined his airline with different companies and small airlines to form the MyTravel group. One of the airlines he had joined with had renamed MyTravel Airways. The MyTravel group also started their own low-fare airline names MyTravel Lite, but this airline was abandoned in 2003. Over the years MyTravel had experienced some major changes especially when inviting new aircraft in and starting their long-haul services. The airline had started as a small in-house airline to a whole travel group and major charter airline. In February, 2007 MyTravel joined the Thomas Cook Group, and on March 2008, Mytravel Airways was officially changed to Thomas Cook Airlines.

      - Fleet -

      MyTravel's fleet were known to have a very outstanding design. They used the colours of orange and blue, Having half the aircraft body orange, half the aircraft body white, the aircraft tail a mix or orange and blue, and the MyTravel logo near the front of the aircraft. It was simply a beautiful and eye-catching design.

      As the airline is no longer operating, there are no numbers of how many aircrafts they have
      Here are the types of aircrafts they operated in the past:

      - Airbus A321
      - Airbus A330
      - Boeing 757
      - Boeing 767
      - McDonnell Douglas DC-10

      - Personal Experience -

      I had booked a week holiday to Turkey, Marmaris for an October break 2007. I payed £210 self catering in a three star hotel.

      Check in was open several minutes late, suppose its nothing to complain about. We had some slight trouble with the check in lady. There was 3 of us travelling, each of us only one kilogram overweight. In the past, the check in people ignore silly little things like this, but this check in lady was pretty arogent that we were a kilogram overweight each. Well, she wasn't arogent and the fact we were overweight exactly, but she was a bit annoyed when we asked if it really mattered. No, were not a cheapskate family who was trying to save £18, we had spent all our English money in a taxi to the airport and all we had were out English £10 notes to get into the country, and several Turkish Lira for water at when we landed, as it is a 2 hour bus ride and the temperature is usually 40 - 50 degrees. She said "sorry its rules". Well we couldn't exactly argue with rules, could we? But really, how will 3 kilograms of weight affect an aircraft? We then asked for our suitcases back to unpack a few items. She looked at us strangely and said we had to go to a certain desk to claim them back. So we moved from terminal 2 to terminal 1 and found the Mytravel desk, she then told us we had to go this other desk, and we refused. We dipped into out holiday money for water and food when we arrived and paid the £18 pound excess.

      After that, it was a pretty long half an hour to wait without food or water. Eventually the plane arrived. We were waiting in the que for a pretty long while before boarding. Coming on the aircraft, you could see it was well cleaned. The seats were that horrible rubbery feel, but at least they weren't scratched like most are. On the whole the cabin looked modern, to be honest I feel safer in modern looking cabins, it makes me feel as if the aircraft is modern to and works better. I really must say the aircraft was tiny! I struggled to move between the window and my long-legged friend. The cabin crew looked smart and friendly. As per usual I took a trip to the toilet before take-off. It wasn't exactly cleaned to perfection, but it did OK. We took our seats, seatbelts were checked, safety demonstration was done and we were off! The pilot gave us a brief announcement of the flight, he sounded young and friendly. That does sound really judgemental, no matter what age or how friendly a pilot sounds, it doesn't affect their ability to fly! It was a short while before the cabin crew were up and starting their service!

      The trolley came down service a variety of snacks and drinks. They sold things such as sweets, soft drinks, crisps, chews and biscuits. The only reason we could remember all these lovely things is because we thought we would be smart and keep all out money in the stupid bank until we arrived. Tip for going on holiday, take plenty of money to the airport, you'll regret it if you don't. The boy who served us was really friendly looking and polite, "would you like anything from our trolley love" he smiled. "yes, I seriously do but your airline's ground staff just robbed the rest of our money". Nah, I didn't really say that, I just replied with a "no, thank you" but I had a good mind to say so. The cabin crew then offered us the choice of earphones to watch the feature film, Shrek 3. I was raging because I wanted to see that film. I did see it when I came back from holiday, its a load of rubbish don't bother with it! The earphones were £2.80, They used to be £1.50 but perhaps because the airline was closing they were raising the prices.

      I decided to look at the recline magazine in my pouch. The safety card was more amusing to be honest. Is it just me, or is the fact that they animate what to do in an emergency then put in on a comic strip-like card scary? I think the little people sitting with oxygen masks creep me out to be honest. The magazine was all about Mytravel, nothing with a slight interest to be honest. So I amused myself for the next hour by watching a soundless Shrek 3. Once again, we had the seats which was behind the the closest TV. If we leaned our heads back, we could have saw a bit of the bottom of the TV, but you would be more or less looking at the angry passenger who's tea your hair is falling into. I decided just to squint at the tv 6 isles in front of me. The flight was very eventful. We were flying though thunder, woo! I'm one of these people who love turbulence. I didn't like the look of the wing though, it was flapping like a bird, I laughed as I thought about how the aircraft would have looked from the outside. Well, I couldn't say MyTravel didn't make an effort to provide in-flight entertainment, we were just to broke to enjoy it.

      The cabin crew came down the meals, they looked very nice. I had ordered a meal this time, and thank god I did! I was starving. They also gave us free orange squash, how nice. The meal was chicken pie, that sucked. The potato was all lumpy and dry, and the chicken didn't even taste like chicken, it tasted weird, like, dough. Wouldn't be surprised if it was! But the desert was nice. It was some sort of lemon cake. We even got crackers and a roll, that was tasty enough. Airline butter just tastes weird, don't try it! We were given the meal in this strange looking box, I suppose it was pretty nice to look at. They also provided us with these bags to put our rubbish in then tie to your trays, it sounded like a good idea so we didn't need to sit and wait for them to be collected. Oh, Mytravel was one of those airlines that didn't collect your meals until it was on their schedule. God, I hate that routine! After the meal it was sleepy time, best part of the flight.

      The cabin crew dimmed the lights and we all could get a little sleep. Well, not really considering they don't provide blankets on short haul flights. The cabin was really cold, we all snuggled up close together and longed for a sleep. It was really relaxing, feeling the movement of the aircraft and the noises of the aeroplane, Yes I AM WEIRD. Say it loud and proud, I like the engine noises! I think they like a soft drilling in my ear. Maybe I should stop now, I don't want to get reported to Dooyoo for being a total nutjob. Well, I could say, without a pillow and blanket I got a really good nights sleep. For 15 minutes! I was really annoyed at the fact they made 8 announcement in the space of half an hour. They were all advertising stupid perfumes and scratch cards and all that! Afterwards they brought the cabin lights back up again and it was duty free time. They were selling teddies, cigarettes, perfumes, make up, you name it they sold it. 10/10 for selection and variety. The turbulence must have pushed the flight up a bit because straight after duty free, it was landing time. The landing wasn't the best ive had, it was very dark and really wasn't a nice view. Still, the flight went in quick and we were there in no time. We got off the aircraft quickly and trouble-free.

      We have had a few good experiences with Mytravel, and a few bad. This was probably a good one! I would say I wouldn't hesitate to travel with them again, but I guess I never will. We flew to Turkey a lot on this airline and we had some good memories. I really liked them as an airline, I think our good experiences overcome the bad. Well, before this gets all soppy and cheesy im going to round it up. It was a good airline and the cabin crew were really lovely people. I hope to meet some of them again in the future.

        pay for this, pay for that

        My travel, well after my last experience with them, it will definately not be my travel ever again. The flight is very basic for long haul, i went to Florida and apart from having to pay for food, drinks, snacks, the whole plane was basic, and when you consider the price is not that much cheaper than say Virgin, i would say after you pay for all the extras you get included with other major airlines, then it doesnt cost that much more to fly with someone else.
        You also have to purchase headphones so you can try and watch one of the tvs that hang down from the roof of the plane, so no choice on what film to watch either, it does make a 9 hour flight feel like 9 hours. I was told by booking staff to buy a cheap portable dvd player so i could watch films of my choice.
        My children couldnt see the screens over taller people in fron of them so advice was given to them by the stewardess to sit on more pillows so they can see over the people in front, if not stand, so therefore people behind us would also would not be able to see, what have they got to do, hang from roof.
        Also seating was poor, for a family of four, we could only seat 3 together and i had to seat apart from them. so advoid.

        worst upgraded flight ever!!

        Just got off plane from the Usa worst ugraded flight ever!So bad just had to write a review .Was promised in the holiday brochure extra wide seats upgraded menu if that was an upgraded meal I would of hated to have the economy meal .Broken tv no volume on so lip read or would of had to endure 10 hours of boredom, two hot drinks in 10 hours one which I asked for! no meal choiceIf like my husband you didn't like chicken then you better bring your own dinner! crappy seats reclined mine sat in the irate mans lap behind me had to sit upright all flight!same film package as 2 main films were off sysyem which was on a loop has to wait for longest film on loop to finish.And I thought Monarch was bad! Dont waste your money upgrading! Crap plane crap service. Don't believe the glossy brochure

        My Travel had our lifes at risk

        Hi im 13 we left Belfast int (BFS) and where flying to Malaga (APG) 20mins away from Malaga we turned for Manchester so we were sitting in a My Travel plane the same My Travel plane for a good 4 to 5 hours. We turned back dew to an engin fualt they put our lifes at risk and told us what happened people were really shiting them selfs. But they gave us a really nice hotel to stay in over night and paid for dinner and breakfast. When we fanily got to Malaga (APG) people got free day out and we got not a thing.

        We would not travel again with MyTravel even if it were free.

        We travelled with MyTravel in March 2007 from London to Orlando.
        It has to be possibly the worst flight experience I've ever had. Firstly the plane was delayed 10 hours, with very little information given. We were offered twelve pounds each in food vouchers, and as you know, food pricing in airports is not exactly cheap, so that didn't go down well.

        On the plane the economy seats are packed in. If you are 5'10" or above you will suffer! At 6'0" tall my legs did not fit in comfortably and where the seat was worn so much that I could feel a metal rod against my back.
        My girlfriend caught a flu like illness on the way out because the temperature on the plane was far to high, around 30C. She had almost recovered, then it was time to return home, once again making her bad!

        There was a reasonable choice of entertainment onboard in the way of TV, films and radio. It was a shame we could not watch them because the seat back screens did not work at all on both outbound and inbound. It was fortunate we both bought new books to read!
        You would end up cross-eyed if you watch the screen because of the seats being so close together.

        Summing up: MyTravel do offer low price fares and you really do feel that 'cattle truck' enviroment. A little tip, if you are booking online deselect the in-flight meal and have a better meal at the airport before you fly. Also deselect the transfers, it's cheaper, quicker and more comfortable to get a cab.

        Seriously, spend a little extra for a long haul flight. The likes of Virgin, BA, AA all offer a far better service.
        Remember 'you get what you pay for!'

          WHAT A LOT OF SH-T MY TRAVEL IS DO NOT FLY ON A BOEING WITH THEM

          my travel, oh my god, never again. NOT ON A BOEING FOR A LONG HAUL FLIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
          We got on a flight from glasgow to mexico in oct this year (2006) Well yes I am a fairly large lady but my husband is the opposite (lucky for him) we boarded the plane a day late due to WAIT FOR IT 2 FLAT TYRES yes thats right 2 flat tyres not just one we were kept on the runway for 3 hours and told not to panic when we saw fire personnel arrive at the aircraft, that was okay but when I saw 8 firemen with a long hose and breathing apparatus on I did slightly panic after all we were told it was only flat tyres, maybe I over reacted but some how I do not think so when you get a flat on your car you dont call the fire brigade. after 3 hours we were took back to the airport lounge to wait a further 2 hours to be told we would not be going until the next day as the crew were now on their rest time. next day my ar-e got wedged into the seat and that was me for 10 hours, even the thinner people were all complaining about the lack of room, Lucky for me I had a tape measure in my bag, the seats measured exactly 17 and half inches wide, so before you go I would certainly measure your ar-e and see how you will fit into the seat. on our return flight before take off the steward asked me to put my mp3 player down the side of me for take off, my reaction was to ask if he was having a laugh as you could not even get a 5 pence piece down the side of you never mind anything else. honestly please think before you book for a MY TRAVEL FLIGHT it is certainly worth paying the little extra to fly with another airline ie FIRST CHOICE. PLEASE TAKE HEED TO THIS MESSAGE AND DO NOT FLY WITH MY TRAVEL ON A BOEING FOR LONG HAUL FLIGHTS,

            A Nice Airline, (Perfect) With Entertainment And Fun. Recomened!!!!!!!!

            My travel airlines is a well run airline. From most of the airlines I have flew with, this is very more orginzed. Its not one of the most high-classed airlines. Such as 'Virgin Atlantic' Or 'Brittish Airways' Or Even 'First Choice'. But It isn't as bad as 'Pegasus Airlines' Or 'Ryanair'. My flight with MyTravel was to Turkey. Aproaxmitly 4 and a half hour flight. They were well orginized the first time I traveled with them. They had 2 films, Scratch cards, Children magizines. They had us all entertained. I suppose that was the pilots decition. His name was Captain Dave. He was one of the friendly blokes. ESPECIALY to children and his cabin crew. He had our sides splitting. I went to the loo. It was beside the door. (Of the airoplane). The toilets were very spacious and clean. A few times a flight attendant checked on them. I got the idea this was a very safe airlines. as the gas masks were fitted into the toilet. I sat down on my comfy chair. I was a little disapoined at the Tv screen as there was only 2 or 3 for each section of the plane. (MyTravel Planes are huge) We finally got our meal. I Really Don't know how to explain it...Exept if your flying with the airline..bring sanwhiches! Better then eating half-frozen Chicken pie. And the breakfastes! Im not even going to explain It! I was slightly disapointed at The fact that you are served Orange squash with your dinner. The other option was just to simpaly Pay £2.50 for a SMALL can of coke. I took the squash! We went over the ocean, Windows freezed up, legs got goosebumps, Airline no blankets! Still ..Pleased to know we were landing in a few minutes. The air Hostess Wished us a happy holiday, a nice airline, to start a nice Holiday!

              Unless you are a sardine - AVOID!!!

              My family and I recently flew to Tenerife from Belfast with My Travel. The plane was on time and we boarded swiftly onto the plane. After taking my seat my brother noticed rubbish in his seat front pocket which included some split yogurt. When I sat down to comfortable at the aisle seat (I am 6 ft 3) I shifted in my seat to get comfortable only to be greeted with a metal bar rubbing against my lower spine in my seat. I was quite willing to let this go and I placed my sweatshirt behind my back to make my journey more comfortable. I had no leg room to start with my knees tight against the seat in front but again I know that planes are not always the most comfortable so I again let this go.

              We took off on time and without any problems. About half an hour into the flight we were told that the in flight entertainment was not working due to 'technical difficulties' - fair enough I thought its nobodies fault this. In compensation for no entertainment we were offered £4 playing cards and packets of crisps to keep us entertained and off course we would have to pay for these.

              At the same time as the above announcement we were informed we would have a "lovely plate of sausages, peas and mash". Sounds nice and I was really ready for it. So I open up the plastic container to get stuck into my dinner only to be confronted by a horrible looking, burnt, orange gruel described by the cabin crew as pasta bolognaise. I was getting quite annoyed and so I asked why I was not having any sausages. The reply was simply that they packed the wrong meals! So I suffered on for the rest of the flight while the cabin crew pushed past with their trolley banging of my kneecaps each time without apologising. What was on the trolleys? – mini tins of coke for £1 and bags of Malteasers for £3. What a bargain! By the time I got off the flight I was aching with a sore back and cramp in my legs even though I got up and walked about several times on flight.

              I could tell you about the return flight but I would nearly be repeating myself. Basically My Travel was a living nightmare and as far as I am concerned should be avoided.

                I travelled last month with MYTRAVEL airline to Jamaica with my family,consiting of another adult, a OAP, a child and a toddler. The problems began early on when collecting the tickets, an eagle eyed currency exchange girl asked us why we hadn't booked any meals for a 11 hour flight. Because, nobody had told us we had to, and this extra cost us £75 after paying for the tickets, and annoyingly, this was to cause more hassle because Mytravel didn't provide us with any type of proof or confirmation, so we had ask before checking in, and both times, the desk assitants were clueless. Then the icing on the cake was reading their holiday guide book, which said that on a long haul flight, the extra for a meal is £10, not the £15 each we were charged, and when I phoned up to inquire about this, the woman on the phone was....well, clueless. On the day of the flight, we were told after checking in that the flight was delayed for a tremendous 8 hours! Then to add insult to injury, we were given a princley sum of £3 each as an apology for our "meals". Has anyone EVER bought a airport meal, or even a biscuit, for £3? On the flights, we were dealt with probably the most unproffessional staff I have ever encountered. On the return journey, the toddler in our group was very ill, so we asked for Calpol. The flight attendant returned with some strange yellow mass, and rushed off without saying a single word, and of course, no concerned parent would feed a mystery substance to their 3 year old. So, we pressed the attention light and waited...and waited...40 minutes later, the same hostess came round with the duty free trolley. "Excuse me, Is this calpol?" "No, its cough medicine" "But I asked for Calpol" "Oh right!" and with that, she was down the isle selling her Chanel. No apology, no rushing to get the correct medicine for the crying child, she just carried on nonchalantly. I had to physically
                block a member of staff before we were finally attended to. Another incident on the return flight was that some bright spark forgot to pack blankets. Bear in mind we had just returned from a very hot country and most people were dressed in T-shirts, so the majority of passengers were freezing. Were the blankets handed out logically, to children first? No, they were given out out randomly, so the first two rows got blankets, and those at the back of the plane didn't get any. I could carry on, but I want to avoid RSI. I know there will be people who will say that My travel is essentially a budget airline, so why should I expect anything spectacular. Well, the thing is, I didn't expect very much, just basic good manners, a thankyou or a please, and someone actually fulfilling their job description to a very basic level. My Travel may be bearable for short haul journeys but for long haul, forget it. Fork out the extra few hundred pounds and get a comfortable, pleasant and warmer service.

                  This August (2003) me and my family went on holiday to Zakynthos/Zante . We went with Airtours Holidays (part of My Travel) and like most of their flights, we went with My Travel Airways from Cardiff to the small airport that is Zakynthos/Zante. MYTRAVEL The My Travel Group was formerly the Airtours plc group. The airline, and the group has changed to My Travel, the main holiday company remains as Airtours amongst Aspro, Direct Holidays, Bridge, Cresta, Panorama, Going Places and more. My Travel Airways UK (there is another arm of My Travel in other places across the world) used to be Airtours International. I flew on them when they were Airtours and I have to say that they were good then but they seem to have got better. CARDIFF AIRPORT/CHECK-IN The flight was at 7.00am which was an early start (whilst we live in Cardiff, we still stayed at a hotel near there, which wasn't very nice- the Airlodge). The check-in arangment for My Travel is the best of the charters because they have the most flights (apart from schedules and low cost like bmibaby and KLM). MYT (the flight code for My Travel) have 8 check-in desks, but of course only a very small few were open! Going Places didn't have any baggage tags left so we had to just make do with the Airtours Holiday Plus baggage tags (an Airtours upgrade) which didn't have the destination and flight, accom. info on there but we just hads to make do. That's until the check-in staff gave us some Airtours standard ones which were sticky labels you tied around the handle. Check-in was relatively quick from handling agency, Servisair. We made our way up the stairs with the blue and orange shing boarding cards to be met by a blue and orange My Travel Airbus A321-200. I looked at the registration of the aircraft and I was glad- it was G-CTLA, a aircraft which was new a few months previously (I knew that because of this airliner website. The new livery l
                  ooks much better than the old Airtours livery. BOARDING Our flight boarded on time and we boarded at the same time as a Britannia to Palma/Majorca. We boarded on the airbridge (tunnel) of Gate 2 down to the doors of the aircraft. The cabin crew were very warm and friendly, they wore a blue and aqua uniform which was very smart, in my opinion. We sat in our seats, and we departed on time. The safety demo was very proffesional and was done without the video but with the cabin crew and the famous safety card in the seat pocket in front of you!. IN-FLIGHT Our TV above our heads wasn't working but the cabin crew gave us another row in 2DEF which worked. Now that, was very good because it shows that they want to help. The TV's were drop down ones on every four or five rows. The movie was 'The Core' and there was a selection from the audio channels. The headsets were £1.50 and were available to be kept forever. They were blue with the My Travel logo and were the ones that clip on your ear. They were two pin but could be twisted to allow to be used on one pin audio systems. You could also read the VIP- Very Important Passangers magazine which also featured My Travels fleet of aircraft and 'Retail Detail' their inflight shopping guide. The meal was a hot breakfast. Airtours Holiday Plus passengers get a free meal, Economy/Standard passengers get a free one in Winter 2003/2004 but from Summer 2004, you have to pay. All other Airtours and other company packages you have to apy aswell. The meal was nice by plane standards. It also featured the usuals like orange juice, roll, tea or coffee The bar service was good with tea and coffee available to purchase along with the other usual drinks and snacks. They also gave out the usual shopping services. DISEMBARKING We soon disembarked and we stepped in small Zakynthos/Zante airport. They are building a new terminal soon
                  though. By the way, Zakynthos is a greek island if you don't know that. RETURN Everything was just as good as the outbound on the same aircraft. A different crew were also very friendly, showing that My Travel are quite consistent with staff quality. The meal, was a choice for Holiday Plus from Airtours with others getting a cottage pie or shepards pie or something like that. (The choice was made before we travelled. We didn't have a choice on the way because it was morning.) Movie was 'How to lose a Guy in 10 days' alond with the audio channels and magazine. A perfect end to a great holiday. My Travel Airways is, in my opinion a good airline. Some people think that they are terrible in punctuality but they seem to have been getting new aircraft like ours (the staff said it was new) and both our flights arrived early and departed on time. Also, do not get confused! My Travel Lite is part of My Travel but offers a differend 'no-frills service'. My Travel is a full service except for the pay for meals unless in Airtours Holiday Plus. I would without hesitation fly with them again. Thank-you anyway. I hope my review was very good and I hope that you found it very useful.

                    My Travel - Lite - good & cheap - Advantages: Flies from Birmingham, amonst other airports, Cheap (to Alicante), Good service - Disadvantages: Not from many airports, Prices vary a lot, dependding on day, time, etc, No free food or drink - big deal!
