Advantages: Sometimes appears to be cheaper

Disadvantages: The add-ons are excessive and they are starting to charge to pee

RyanAir sometimes has one advantage, that of price. It is true, they tend to be cheap, especially to Ireland. But that one token is easily overshadowed by their other disadvantages. First of all, like many small and not so small airlines these days, they charge for everything 'extra' from bags to check in. The check-in charge is particularly relevant for non EU passport holders- we are not allowed to check in online (for reasons unknown) and so we have to check in at the airport. Of course, airport check in costs extra. This is rediculous, and possibly illegal, so just be aware that if you are a non EU passport holder your ticket will be £10-15 more expensive than the advertised price. Furthermore, as I read in the paper today, they are going ahead with plans to both charge for use of the bathroom on flights, and possibly also remove bathrooms from planes to add extra seats. This is ludicrous- paying for a plane ticket is a contract for a minimum service, and although minimum has been reduced lately (no longer including checked luggage, etc), surely it hasn't been reduced so far as to not include peeing? At any rate, just another thing to keep in mind when estimating the total cost of the flight. Overall, I am not impressed with RyanAir, the last time I flew them was because they were the cheapest flight by a huge margin- of over £100, when I wanted to visit a friend in Gottenburg, Sweden, but I regretted it, I was charged extra for everything imaginable- would have been better to meet her in Stockholm and fly someone else! For those of you who care about social issues, I would also note that RyanAir makes a calendar of its air hostesses, in a very sexist way. I would regard RyanAir as the absolute last resort airline.

Summary: not worth it.

Every time I fly with them the planes are full. I manage fine with hand luggage - even for a two week holiday.

There really is nothing new about the airline's pricing structure. All airlines "charge for everything" they just put it in the ticket price.

I find this annoying! You can choose to fly British Airways or equivalent, pay through the nose, and not be charged for anything else. Personally I would rather pay a fraction, and then choose what else I want to pay for. I think their brilliant, the cream of the budget airlines.
