Advantages: Cheap, smooth journey, no problems
Disadvantages: hidden costs
I have only flown with Ryanair once that was in April of this year.
WHERE WE WENT-
My boyfriend and I flew from Manchester airport to Dublin airport on 11th April 2009.
HOW MUCH DID IT COST-
The flights all together probably cost around £70 for the two of us return
WHAT DID THAT INCLUDE-
It included online checking, so we didn't have to check in at the airport. We were also allowed 5kg hand luggage on the plane.
WHAT WE THOUGHT-
We booked around a month before we made the trip, and as I had never flown with Ryanair I thought it was the ideal choice as I had often heard about their cheap deals. We logged onto the website and at first it looked like it was really cheap, as they were advertising flights for about £5, but as we continued into the checkout more boxes were checked for us and the total flight bill ended up way over £100. After some dechecks such as need for travel insurance etc, we found out the flights were going to be a lot more than just £5 each way. Another thing that we also found out was that it was very expensive just to add another a small suitcase. We were relatively happy with the price of the flights in the end, but we did think they falsley advertised, which is typical of these types of deals which is fair enough to be honest. As we found Dublin city centre was quite expensive we could only afford to stay over two nights, and as the flights were at around 3pm and 10am we only spent one full day in Dublin which was disappointing.
However we found Dublin as a city lots of fun and it was a really nice trip away.
Flying with Ryanair was a little bit different from what I have ever flown with, nobody has an individual seat you need to choose your own. As we were nearly last on the plane we found it hard to find two seats next to each other, but eventually did. Ryanair also offer a choice whether to use your internet/telephone during the flight which I thought was quite good judging usually they are not allowed on most flight. No inflight movie was played, but the journey was only 40 minutes so not sure if they usually do, I would presume not.
I was slightly disappointed with the destinations available from my local airport, Manchester airport as some of the more desired places to fly to were only available from London airports. Some of the available places to visit are also pretty random places.
Overall my experience with Ryanair was pleasent, the air stewardesses were polite and came around with drinks and snacks on a trolly to buy from. The flight was smooth and also pleasent and I was happy to see we arrived in Ireland in just over 40 minutes. I probably will be using Ryanair again but I will definitley look around on other cheap flight websites first before I proceed to actually booking anything as I was slightly disappointed with the added extras including high tax and the credit card fees.
Summary: Low-budget- you get what you pay for
