Advantages: cheap tickets
Disadvantages: poor service
I am a bit on the fence with Ryanair, although no body can deny their really cheap fares at times are really attractive but you do realise because you pay a lot less you do get less of a caring service and more of a bus ride.
Lets begin with the positives.
Ryanair offers tickets on their planes for as little as £1, £5 and £10 including taxes and charges. This price is only during sales and there are conditions that need to be followed. Usually the sale only lasts for about four days and the travel dates are limited. Although dates you may choose are within the travel period, if it falls on a Friday- Sunday or bank holiday then expect o pay up to 3500% more if not even higher just for the seat. Also the longer you leave it to book a flight the more you will have to pay.
These cheap tickets are only available on selected routes. NOT all routes.
This is where they get you.
If you are lucky and manage to get a £1 ticket, then here are some cost cut measures to keep your cost as low as possible. You should pay online using a Visa Electron card as no fee will be applied where as pay by debit or credit card and you will add a fiver to your costs.
Check in online or else that will cost you another £5.
Hand luggage is allowed but a limit of 10 KG. If you require placing luggage in the hold, then you will have to pay a fee of £10 for a bag with a limit of 15kg. It costs even more for a second bag.
As I said before, the less you pay, the lower the quality of service. Ryanair do not really work on the same basis as a normal airline, more of a bus service. You may have a ticket with your name on it but really it does not mean much to Ryaniar. It is by law that they must check you, your passport purely for security reasons.
When on the plane you sit anywhere just like getting on bus. They do not know who you are and they do not have a manifest showing who sits where, and who has special needs. The plane itself is relatively new but they barely find time between disembarking passengers and loading passengers to clean the plane. Most of the time I am queuing on the airport tarmac watching the previous passengers walk off.
Food on the plane is not free, they must be purchased and at a higher inflated cost.
Employees are ok, I wouldn't say the best but also can not say they are bad. They are usually too busy preparing your flight to be of much help.
Overall I think Ryanair are more concerned at getting you there as soon as possible and less worried about how you get there. They may fly you anywhere in Europe but you definitely do not get the quality of other airlines. I personally would choose to pay more for another airline should that become available but for the time being I am stuck with Ryanair.
Summary: im stuck with it

- 13/08/09 I dislike how they fly near to places rather than to the actual airport of that city. For example they fly to Paris-Beauvais which is around an hour north of Paris when there are 2 perfectly good airports on the cities outskirts. Very annoying! |
