Advantages: Cheap and easy to book with friendly and well presented staff.
Disadvantages: extra cost that can catch you out
I have just returned from Spain and could not wait to write the review on RYANAIR. My wife and I flew out of Birmingham last Thursday after booking and checking in on line. I have to say you pay for what you get with cheap fares you get cheap service at expensive prices.
However the boarding and cabin personnel were polite, well mannered and well presentable (Good tidy uniforms)
It was a pleasure not to have to go through check-in, because with only small baggage for a short stay, it was convenient and cheaper. The size and weight measurements are clearly stated. So it is up to you the passenger to make sure you pack carefully and that your bag or mini-suitcase fits the gauge at the boarding or you will get stung with excess and see it disappear into the hold.
At Birmingham where we had paid the extra for priority boarding (So we could get on board our and seats early and sit together) I felt that the Priority queue was too close with the ordinary boarding which gave a bit of a bottle-neck with passengers getting held up trying to fit their bags into the gauge. This was quite laughable with someone trying to practically jump on their baggage to make it fit.
After standing in the loading tunnel for nearly ten minutes, we were led down onto the Tarmac , via some steps where we had to wait another five minutes in the open air. It was just as well it wasn't raining. Finally we climbed the steps onto the plane. Here we were greeted by the cabin crew and ushered to the middle of the plane to get our seats there.
Oh Dear! A bus with Wings! The yellow and dark blue livery and UPVC type seating on the inside was a sight for sore eyes and not much leg room either.
We were handed a free in-flight magazine to read with useful information and articles as well as onboard price list. Then came the expense of the drinks and food which for approximately £4.00 a can of lager or wine, someone must be a desperate alcoholic to pay that much. Finally just to add insult we were asked for the return of the free magazine just before the plane was due to land.
Many writers have already quoted prices of Ryan Air, which I feel it is cheaper than many other airlines but at the same time you pay for what you get and before you book take into consideration: How many hours are you flying: How much can you afford to get the standard of service you desire and comparison with an airline that will justify its cost.
I may use Ryan-air again one day if I can't get a suitable time by others. I am not whingeing, I believe that you pay for your standards and if you pay cheap fares, you will expect cheaper service. I feel Ryan Air was good service with the attitude that if you want more you will have to pay for the loss they have made on fuel from your requirements without others having to pay for you.
Summary: Why Whinge? It is cheap and you pay for your requirements.
