Advantages: Very cheap
Disadvantages: Don't expect too much, Not the best airport locations
Most weekends, I used to travel to and from Dublin. Before I was online I had to take the train from Nottingham to Holyhead and then take the ferry to Ireland. It was such a long journey and not cheap either. This was until I discovered my saviour - Ryanair.com. I couldn't believe when I first checked I was finding flights for about 20 pence. This is, of course, until the tax is added on to bump up the price by about 1000% Even so, the value is still outstanding. One of the problems with Ryanair is that the destination airports are generally the smaller ones and so are a long way from where you need to be. There are generally buses to take you to the city/town centres though. Some people don't like the fact that passengers are packed in, no seat reservations, and no free food and entertainment. What do you expect at such a low price? If you want to travel on a low budget and don't care about luxuries then Ryanair will suit you just fine. If you do decide to book with Ryanair then I have a few helpful hints: 1) Make sure you know the geography of where you are going. Plan ahead so that you know that you won't be stuck at the airport or have to pay a huge taxi fare. 2) Look out for special offers, prices can be even cheaper. Don't be fooled by the book by midnight rule though as I have found that next week the very same offer will be repeated. However, don't blame me if this isn't the case as some of their offers will be one off. 3) Try to travel on weekdays at less convenient times. Even if you only fly one-way on a Friday or Saturday it can bump the price up considerably. Try out lots of combinations of flights dates and times to get the best price. 4) Try to fly from Stansted. Prices tend to be much cheaper. I hope that this is helpful to you low budget travellers out there. I had a very nice holiday in Venice the other year and you wouldn't believe how
little I spent (I also stayed in a nice but cheap hostel - ask me if you want to know the name).

- 30/07/02 In reply to shewhosmiles. As I stated the prices are extremely low. It is impossible to quote prices as they change so much depending upon when you book and what offers they have on at the time. I can only advise you to check regularly to get the best price. As I also mentioned, there are no luxuries with Ryanair. The flight attendents are very friendly but there are no real in flight services. |

- 30/07/02 It would be nice to know more about the prices and how they compare with other airlines. Plus how comfortable the seating is and how helpful the flight attendants are. |

- 30/07/02 I hope that Ryanair buld up their business from Edinburgh. I fear what will happen here when Easyjet take over 'Go'. |
