Advantages: cheap, good spanish cover
Disadvantages: delays, comfort
Hi all, I normally fly Iberia when in Spain or when going to Spain. Once I decided to go for Spanair on the Madrid - Barcelona route, it was cheap and I wanted to try something else. Spanair is part of the SAS Group, the Scandinavian airlines and as a result a member of Star Alliance supposedly, the best airline alliance in the world. So far so good, I also noticed that their fleet is quite heterogeneous with McDonnell Douglas, Airbus and Boeing planes. I flew in a McDonnell Douglas which was a bit odd since you board in at the very rear of the plane, and thats pretty rare. The flight was delayed to start with so we had to wait inside the plane for about 40 minutes, they kindly distributed a 25% discount voucher for the same route but they are probably aware that only a few will use it. Another odd thing was the fact that the boarding gate was very far from the actual plane, it took about 10 minutes for the bus to drop us at the feet of the plane. Not sure if its due to the fact that the Barajas airport was busy that day, so lets presume it does not happen often. Personnaly I know I will stick to Iberia next time, just too many things went wrong for my likings.

- 27/06/04 McDonnell Douglas MD-series are hideous planes, I remember watching on the news a while back about one of Spanair's ones whose landing gear had collapsed on landing. Never a good thing! Cheers, Tom. |
