Tarom is the Romanian airline and it is one of the few airline companies I know who are not part of a larger network of airlines.
I have used Tarom to fly to Bulgaria only, they have a small plane connection Bucharest with Sofia.
I flew in business and for the first time in my life I was on a plane where the business class has got 2 seats facing each other, which on a couple of occasions made for very interesting conversations with fellow passengers.
This kind of plane is small, so you need to leave your luggage at the feet of the plane and they store in the luggage department and I never had any problem with that. The only inconvenience is that the entrance to the plane is from the back, so if you are in business you are amongst the last to leave the plane, and if it is raining at the arrival, your luggage may be on the tarmac waiting for you and getting wet!
There is always at least 1 pretty hostess on board, which is a good thing if you are a male, or a lesbian.
Lunch is the usual air fare, nothing to write home about and drinks are unlimited in business, which on one occasion led to a passenger being so drunk that they could not wake him up when we landed and the bus shuttle to the airport had to leave without him!
Staff speak English and off course Rumanian.
I was on about five round trip tarom flights. All were on time with decent service and food. Four flights were from New York JFK to Bucharest OTP, one from Bucharest OTP to Berlin. When flying from New York to Bucharest they are the best option. The Berlin flight was sort of expensive but had good service. The food was the best airline food I had. The movies were allways good. Unlimited soft drinks and beer were allways a plus.
