Our holiday to the Dominican Republic started bad with a 22 hour delay and we had to spend the night in a Gatwick hotel but were not given our luggage back so had to wear same clothes the following day.
On the way home why we was lining up to check in I was approached by a Thomas Cook employee who asked if me my wife and 9 year old son would like to pay £130.00 each and upgrade our seats, I asked what we would get for the money and was told we would have extra TV channels, bigger TV screens, more leg room, priority luggage, better food, so I decided to treat the 3 of us and paid £390.00 and upgraded.
We was one of the first to board the plane and there was a few extra inches leg room and the TV screen was bigger, the plane took off on time everything was fine until both me and my wife tried to turn our TV`s on only to find neither of them worked, the stewardess tried re-setting them but without any luck she told us that they had been having trouble with them for a while now, there was not a lot she could do about it so we just had to except it, so we both got books out and as it was a night flight we needed the overhead lights to be able to see only to find both of our lights did not work. I felt sorry for the stewardess as there was nothing she could do but she did tell us the fault with the lights and TV`s were known about and the seats should never have been sold and we was given a bottle of champagne as a good will gesture as we sat back to spend 9 hours staring at the back of the seat in front of us.
When the so called better food come all I could say to my wife was if this is better god knows what the poor people at the back of the plane was being fed.
When we arrived back at Gatwick our 1st case was the 3rd one to come out and I said at least we are getting our luggage 1st as we had paid for, I spoke to soon as our 2nd case was one of the last ones it came out 25 minutes after the first one.
I wrote to Thomas Cook explained what happened and asked for some of my money back and after 2 months and about 10 emails Thomas cook told us we would not get a penny back as we had as we had sat in a bigger seat and had complimentary drinks on flight (I had 2 cans of coke wife had 1 vodka and coke).
We go on 2 long hall holidays a year and always go with Thomas Cook but never again, I tried to get ABTA to get them to change there minds but they were not interested I am now in the process of taking them to the small claims court.
Summary: dont use thomas cook
