Advantages: good service, comfie seats, evening check ins
Disadvantages: small bulkhead seat by window
I was really impressed with virgin atlantic.
I had never flown with them before, but this year headed off from Gatwick to St Lucia.
We arrived up at Gatwick the night before, and were able to take advantage of their evening check in, which meant we weren't saddled with all our luggage, esp. on the dreaded hotel transfer bus. It also meant, we didn't have quite such an early start the next morning.
He opted to buy extra legroom- husband 6' 3, so really needs it.
I think it was £50.00 for 2, but may have been 50 each- brain a little wobbly there.
We slept soundly, and arrived at the airport bright eyed and bushy tailed.
Got on board, welcomed by charming staff, who actually felt very genuine, which i think is unusal in the air.
Got nice seats by the emergency door. There were 3 seats, and to begin with it looked like the third would be free. Which was as well, because of the angle of the plane the window seat was very squashed, and in my opinion had less leg room than a normal seat, but just as we were about to leave, a really short man came and sat there. I wanted to ask him if he had paid for extra legroom, because if he had, he was conned.
The food was nice, by airline standards, good choice of entertainement, and the charming flight crew all made the trip sail by.
I normally hate flighing, not because I'm scared, I just find it dull, constricting, and completely lacking in any of my control, oh and I can't have a cigarette !!. This flight however, didn't leave me with any of those feelings (except the cigarette !)
Landed safely, and off we went on our lovely holiday.
Time to come home- sense of dread overcoming me. So many bad flight experiences tell me can't work both ways, oh was I wrong. It got better.
When we went to check in there had been a cock up with our seats, and we were booked into premuim economy. No complaints here.
Lovely wide comfie seats, loads of legroom, bucks fizz on arrival, wine with dinner (all free), meals served with proper knives and forks, and dedicated staff, who really di wait on your every need- all free.
Had a fantastic trip back, and the best thing they never charged me for premuim. Sorry Richard, but I sure it won't break you!
All in all the best flight experience I've ever had, and many friends I've talked to say they rate virgin over a lot of other carriers.
Flying emirates to uindia this year- interested to see how they compare
Summary: All in all restored my faith in carriers
