Advantages: Superb service when we upgraded

Disadvantages: poor service and poor food on standard return journey

We flew with Virgin to Orlando international Florida from Manchester a few weeks ago. It was the first time we had flown with them having been to Florida several times in the past with other airlines and we were looking forward to it because of the great reports we had herd.
Our first problem was that we were unable to book in online as advertised either going or on our return ( others had the same problem ). On our outward flight we upgraded to premium ecconamy at the check in desk at a cost of £150 each extra as a special birthday treat for my wife. This part of the journey was fantastic and the food and service was great the stewardesses were very caring.
On our return journey we did not intend to upgrade but desided to get to the airport early ( 4.5 hours early ) in order to get seats with better leg room, however a rep i in the queing system told us that the only way to get better leg room was to pay an extra wich we ended up doing. We were dissapointed straight away as the seat i had paid extra for was broken and would not recline properly and the headphones and tv controls were broken we reported this but i had to move to the windo seat wich had no extra legroom which we had paid for. We also found that the service in standard ecconomy was no where nere as good and found it dificult to get the attention of staff who kept returning to the curtained off area as soon as they could. The most dissapointing thing of all was the food on the return was awfull the main meal some kind of stewed beef which tasted foul however this was nothing compaired to the so called breakfast meal we were served before ariving in Manchester which was a prossessed ham and egg muffin served in paper without any napkins and it was so bad that dispite being starving neither of us could eat, we were very suprised at this a we had read how great the food was ( we have never had an airline meal that in our opinion was this bad)

Summary: Our return journey was very dissapointing
