Virgin on the sublime? no, but OK though (Virgin Atlantic)

Disadvantages: Not perfect, but what do you expect in economy?

I have had the pleasure of travelling to Washington D.C. with Virgin Atlantic, and found it to be a most rewarding experience, as these things go. I've not always had good flights with airlines flying to the United States (note: my views on American Airlines), so travelling with Virgin came as something of a pleasant surprise.

Starting off from Heathrow (never my favourite airport) filled me with trepidation as I don't much like the place, but I had no choice the first trip with Virgin. The flight was full on a 747, lots of families and so on. Very noisy and crowded. The staff were very efficient, well mannered, and quite calm and obviously well trained in the face of some quite trivial and even nonsensical complaints from irrational passengers. Maybe it was just nerves.

In flight entertainment, pioneered by Virgin I believe, is the usual generic material but a decent diversion nonetheless on a long haul journey. As for food; unless you can afford to upgrade, it's going to be faily bland economy airline fare, but better than a cold glass of water and a cream cracker. All told, travelling with Virgin Atlantic is better than many other airlines; you get what you pay for, and I find that some views, especially by visitors coming the other way to 'do' the UK, are needlessly whingeing in tone and content. There IS worse out there ..

Summary: I'd use VA again, no problemo
