Corfu Kerkyra Airport (CFU)
by tsam My review is mainly about Corfu airport, not the country. I think the country is very good, the scenery fantastic and the locals are friendly always glad to say hello. Due to fly out back to Manchester late on a Friday night, handed my passport into baggage area to get weighed and collect boarding pass.Made way to metal ... detector area (2 of) only one metal detector machine was being used to usher 300 people through for two flights (Manchester & Bristol). I was asked to put small bag, coat, coins, keys, electricals, passport into tubs and collect other side. Got frisked turned around to get belongings from tubs and 'UK passport' was gone (in the space of 6ft !!) Basically it was a rush and a free for all of the other passengers going through the machine - no order or consistency. They should have split the two flights between the 2 machines, I then could have then narrowed it down as to who may have taken my passport - Bristol or Manchester flight passenger at least? Raised the alarm immediately, the police did nothing, the other airport staff processing the passengers accused me of leaving my passport at my hotel!! Even with my boarding pass in my hand and my luggage tagged and on the way to the aircraft hold. There was a shift change in personel on the metal detector area 5 minutes after I raised the alarm. The police and other officials had just under 2 hours to find my passport before my flight took off - there attempts and actions were poor. Disgusted by lack of help from police & easyjet staff and I was basically left at 23:45 Friday evening (flight had gone!) stranded in the airport, everywhere shut and most hotels full due to Greek Easter Holidays. Easyjet would not accept any other form of UK identity other than a UK driving licence (which was back in the UK) - I did show them my UK military ID card, which proved useless, even though it has a colour photo of me on it, my date of birth, service number etc and organisation I work for!! Beware if you use this airport, something fishy is going on, I'm under the impression my passport was either mistakingly taken by another UK traveller heading home or stolen on purpose to keep me in the country so I'd have to spend more money. Easyjet made two feeble tannoy announcements to the UK travellers in the departure lounge to check if they had picked up a 2nd passport by mistake - no-one came forward! I checked my personal bag many many times to make sure my passport wasn't in there and it wasn't! The police did not step up passport checks and didn't seem too concerned about going into the deprarture lounge to get my passport! Phoned both Bristol and Manchester airports the days that followed and no one handed anything in, I await to contact the UK passport agency to see if its been handed in annonymously. Basically my pp was stolen whilst proceeding to the departrue lounge in Corfu airport, whether it be by the security firm operating the metal detector area or another passenger has picked it up, I had no help, there is no area to leave baggage temporarily in order to find a hotel, the police are reluctant to give any reports to help, there quite blazay about it, and without a passport or police report you don't get a hotel room - it's no fun sleeping rough. Be warned - my advice is put / keep your passport in your bag zipped up at all times, foremost take out travel insurance before you travel! The Corfu British Consolute follow the same Greek holiday pattern, so if you need help in an emergency - YOU WILL NOT GET IT - you get patched through to a LONDON duty advisor who tells you to wait! It is quite costly if yours goes missing ie: Emergency passport from the British Consulate in corfu, Hotel costs, car parking in the UK,phone bills calling around, extra cost to airline to rebook flight, food costs etc Flights to the UK from Corfu are on a Moday and Friday only. Kos Island International Airport (KGS)
by blonde_girl774 I recently went on holiday to the Greek island of Kos, even though it feels like months ago now since I was lying by the pool in the sunshine! Obviously whenever you go on holiday one of the first impressions you get of your destination is the airport, and by the time you get there a bad experience can really be the icing on the cake if ... your nerves are already frayed! Luckily my experiences with the airport on the Greek island of Kos were, on the whole, quite positive. The airport is the sole airport on the island and is located 27km from the capital Kos Town in a small village known as Antimachia. Due to the relatively small size of the island the airport is easily accessible from all towns and villages on the island and you'll find that it's less than an hour from all the tourist destinations making transfer times relatively small. The airport first opened back in 1964 although it has changed and grown enormously since those early days. In 1997 the present airport building was erected to cope with the increase in passengers that were travelling to Kos and very little seems to have been altered within the airport since this date. The airport only has the one runway but it doesn't seem to receive a great deal of traffic in general, the day we left there seemed to be around twenty flights departing from Kos and around the same number arriving making it a lot quieter than airports in the UK. When we arrived at the airport we exited the aircraft onto the tarmac and had to walk to the arrivals area which took about one minute. Getting through passport control was both quick and uneventful as we were the only flight arriving at that time. There were only two baggage carousels and the luggage seemed to have been loaded onto them within about fifteen minutes of landing at the airport. We then exited through a small arrivals area to meet our transfer. Departing from Kos was a little more eventful, largely because there seemed to be a number of flights departing around the same time as us and a few delayed ones as well. There were about fourteen check in desks in total and not really a great amount of floor space, as such people that got off our coach after us actually had to queue outside the airport. The inside did seem fairly packed although there was air conditioning which we were grateful for. There was only the one shop in the check in area which sold basic souvenirs and snacks but strangely no drinks at all, these weren't available until you'd passed into the departures lounge. In the departures lounge there was plenty of seating and the windows looked directly onto the runway. There were three individual cafes which were all the same brand selling baguettes, cold drinks, hot drinks and snacks at slightly inflated prices as per usual for airports! There was a duty free shop on the first floor of the airport although it was probably one of the smallest ones I've ever seen, it sold all your usual items but a much smaller range than most airports I've been in. There were a couple of sets of toilets which were all adequately clean and served their purpose. The only other thing in the departures area was passport control which we passed through easily enough, with a simple glance at our passports sufficing! We were delayed by just over an hour on our departure and there really wasn't an awful lot to do in the departures area to occupy that delay, we ended up sitting and reading our books to pass the time. A shuttle bus then transported us (like sardines) the short journey to our aircraft where we managed to take off with no further fuss. All in all then, the airport on Kos is quite basic and very small but it does the job and it has some wonderful air conditioning too! Thanks for reading. Read the complete review |

Corfu Kerkyra Airport (CFU)
by ricky321 The airport at Corfu has a very small runway, which can worry some people. The run way is surrounded by water it looks very pretty even tho taking off and landing can be scary when the weather is bad. i have been to Corfu a few times and it is a very nice place. The airport it fairly small, the toilets are not very nice, ... but then again most loos over there aren't as they cant flush loo paper. The airport has a few little shops were you can buy hot and cold snacks as well as last Minuit gifts for yourself, family or friends. There is a restaurant at the airport that over looks the check-in places which isn't very nice to see when you are eating but it is laid out all nice and the food is great. If you are thinking of going on holiday to Corfu DONT let the airport put you off! Read the complete review |
