Disadvantages: Can't think of any
Adelaide Airport is situated 6.7km from the city centre by taxi or bus which run from around 5.30am until late night. According to Wikipedia, it is the 5th biggest airport in Australia. It was refurbished in 2005, is capable of handling 27 aircrafts and 3,000 passengers per hour.
During my five months of living in Adelaide, I used the airport approximately six times, for domestic trips and also to meet someone from an International Flight.
I used the bus from the city centre to get there, and this is extremely handy as it drops you off right outside the terminal door. Check in was extremely quick and easy, and staff were polite. After checking in, you are required to go through the usual security checks, it is important to remember that even if you are not boarding a flight, but want to meet someone at their arrival gate, you have to go through the security checks, so you need to make sure you don't have liquids over 100ml or sharp objects, for example.
The shopping is all around one area which makes it easy to access. There are clean toilets and lots of comfy chairs to wait on. There is a Burger King restaurant and a Hudsons Coffee Company should you want something more authentically Australian. There are a few boutique stores and a Cocolat shop and cafe, which is a branch of the famous Adelaide chocolate company and is great to buy unique chocolate gifts to take home.
The gates are along a strip in lines, and if you are meeting someone from the plane you can meet them right from the door after the tunnel they have to walk through. With Qantas and Jetstar internal flights, the gates can sometimes feel more like bus stops, with commuters getting off the flights and then a few minutes later the passengers on their onward journey boarding the flight.
The staff were always willing to help when I asked any questions. I noticed they were extremely accommodating towards disabled passengers and those that need extra help.
During my times through Adelaide Airport I never had any problems, any changes/delays etc seemed to be adequately communicated to passengers. Staff were professional, and the airport was clean. The facilities were good and there is enough to keep you busy whilst you are waiting for your flight.
Summary: Great facilities for a small airport
