Newest Review: ... in the night and every 15 minutes in the day. I used Athens International Airport for a pretty short flight to Cyprus but it is often used as a gateway to South East Asia and the Middle East having reasonably priced flights to the two areas of the world. There are plenty of ammenities - toilets, shops, bank machines and the like as well as an unhealthy amount of those weird massage seats ... more

... (have to say I'm judging them without ever having used them!) It's really very up to date and English speakers will have no problems with messages or sign posts. Easyjet and Norwegian are the main budget airlines to service the airport and you can get...more

Athens International Airport is a very modern one, having been built just 7 years ago in 2001. The airport is easily accessible by metro line 3 which costs about 6 euros to get into or from the centre some 20km away or by bus which is cheaper at 3.20 euros, the buses are X90 numbers and depart and arrive at Syntagma square leaving every 30 minutes in the night and every 15 minutes in the day. Premium Review Sofitel hotel - luxury at Athens airport (1157 words)

Location: ######## Sofitel are a large chain of hotels across the world that are 4/5 star. I have only experience of the ones at Athens and Gatwick airports. The Athens Sofitel is the only hotel right on site at the airport. It is just across the road from the airport and is perfect for a transfer. All other transfer hotels are a coach ride away (Holiday Inn) or are in the town itself which is about 1 hour bus ride away. I found details of the Athens airport on the internet when searching for somewhere to stay to kill a 10 hour wait between flights and expected to get the normal bored airport reception that I have experienced before ...  Read the complete review

All ops on Athens airport dated before March 2001 are out-of-date, for the old airport is history. The new one is now operational and sits on the Attica plain like a veritable behemoth, visible from miles around. It helps to have been to the old Hellinikon airport (or just 'Hell' as it was known to many) to appreciate the snappily-titled Eleftherios Venizelos Airport that now serves the 2004 Olympic City. Remember 1985? I refer not to Live Aid, Spitting Image or n-n-n-n-nineteen but to the hijack of a TWA flight which eventually landed in Beirut. That the hijackers boarded at Athens Airport gave the place a world-wide reputation for lax security, and ...  Read the complete review
