Advantages: Clear signs in the international terminals

Disadvantages: not enough seats

Bankok airport is a strange place! My first view as the plane came down was a golf course set within the runways; well you don’t see that at Heathrow. I began to have visions of what a golf ball might do to an aircraft landing; happily there was no impact.

On the long walk from the aircraft to the terminal there were smoking rooms every 50 yards or so, to the relief of those of us addicted to the weed. The passport control & immigration desks were plentiful & our passage through them swift.

The baggage reclaim was efficient & our bags were reclaimed within a reasonable time. Customs was deserted. All the sign were written in Thai & English & very clear.

Transit to the domestic terminal was a problem with the sign taking us to a car park & then just disappearing! A friendly Thai soon put us right escorting us part of the way. The 2 terminals are a very long way apart, not what you need after a 12 hr flight. Another Thai with a motorised buggy came to our rescue & offered us a lift he then refused the tip proffered!

The domestic terminal was a far more confusing place, not too many signs in English, but as ever the friendly Thai’s came to our rescue & found the correct desk for us. There is a distinct lack of seating in both terminals unless you sit in a massage chair at a cost!

The duty free shops are small to say the least & the prices on cigarettes are cheaper in the shops. There is a huge duty free shop in the World Trade centre, here you select your goods & after payment are delivered to the airport on your departure.

The provision of cafes is adequate & of a reasonable price.

You do need to know your terminal number for departure as they are set a long way apart. Official taxi/car booths make transit to the city easy, costs to various locations are very clear, don’t book a return trip though, your hotel can arrange it much cheaper. Beware the add on of excursions offered, you will
be offered a very good deal on a basic excursion & the guide will then proceed to offer add ons at a huge cost!

As an Airport Bankok is functional, but not the most comfortable, not a place to suffer a long delay.
