Advantages: Nice, clean and well located

Disadvantages: Lot of security checks on flights to Israel

Berlin Tegel International is the most central of 3 Berlin airports (the others being Tempelhof and Schonefeld), most of the flights from regular carriers depart and arrive at Berlin Tegel, as do the budget flights from TuiFly. Although Schonefeld is easy to get to, it is much more convenient to leave from Tegel because it is more or less bag in the centre, at no more than 8km from Hauptbahnhof and a bus travelling between the two every 10 minutes.

I was staying in Berlin with a friend who lives somewhere between the two and had exactly the correct change for the bus but the bus driver had no tickets, so waved me on for free - which in turn meant I had an extra 2 euros to spend at the airport. A nice bit of luck.

Berlin Tegel is shaped as a kind of semi circle with 3 (or maybe 4?) halls running off the circle. Despite the fact there are a lot of check in desks, this seems to make the airport have a rather small feeling and makes it incredibly easy to get around in - you don't have to worry about not finding your desk as they are all rather close to one another and very well sign-posted. Efficiency is spot on at this airport.

I was flying to Israel and as in most cases with flying to Israel, the security checks are very strict - this means that the flight was delayed by about 2 hours, as they checked everyone and their baggage thoroughly. The way I see it, is that it is a necessary procedure and I'd rather stand in a queue with my Mp3 player on and eliminate any risk than be blown up in mid air.

Nice, well located airport.
