Advantages: Small, local airport

Disadvantages: Could do with more airlines

I have flown from Blackpool airport twice and it so simple. You cannot get lost, end up in the wrong place or not find your gate.
The airport is at the end of the M55 and is clearly signposted. At the moment parking is free and when we arrived in summer I was a bit worried because there didn't seem to be any available spaces. Cars seemed to be parked everywhere and quite randomly, I'm sure some people would arrive home to find their car blocked in. We soon however found the overflow carpark which is much bigger. Basically though its just a big field next to the runway. Again cars are parked pretty randomly as there are no markings as its a field. I didn't realise until I got home but a friend told me there is no security in place - well you get what you pay for!
Once we parked we followed the pedestrian signs to the airport. Before you get to the airport is a pub which is literally just outside. It is a "Two for One" Wacky Warehouse type pub and we had lunch before the flight. It was a pretty cheap do considering the prices you pay at some airports for food and drink.
When you walk in the airport you're immediately at the check in desk, we've never queued for more than 15 minutes. This year we had to pay £10 each adult for the development fund before we could proceed any further - children are free. I guess it can be justified because the parking's free. Once you're done there you pass through the smallest security control where the staff are so friendly - nice contrast to the arm police we've seen at Manchester! Then you're into the departure lounge. Its a large room with windows at one end where the departure gates are so you get a good view of the runway, planes etc. I think there are only 5 gates so hard to get the wrong one! There's a WHSmith, openplan cafe and a tiny bar tucked away in a corner.
All in all a pleasant, easy start to the holiday. Would recomend flying from here, just a pity more airlines don't go from here.

Summary: Nice
