Bologna Airport (BLQ): A basic but reliable little airport (204 words)

Bologna airport is actually one of my favourites in Italy - for me, it's the gateway to Northern Italy. There is little in the way of shops at Bologna airport, so don't expect to do your shopping there but it's simple and fast and I seem to find myself out on the bus heading to the center in seconds. The airport is just a few kilometres from the city centre and the bus is 5 euros to take you to the train station, which considering the short distance is probably too steep. Bologna train station is well connected to Milan, Florence and Venice as well as the south of the country too, so it is a good place to either arrive or to base yourself. I enjoy this small size efficient airport. It is relatively simple and easy to access. Although it is international, it is not too crowded. Upon arrival, there is a single file of buggage claim which visitors can just pick up the luggage and go. there is a shuttle bus directly to the train station just right outside the exit of the airport. Upon departure, the shuttle bus drove directly from the train station and parked right outside the airport. there are quite a few Italian brands specialty shops. Ferrarei shop has a real Ferrarei race car parked outside the shop. The salesman is very ...  Read the complete review

Bologna Airport (BLQ): small and confusing (192 words)

I used this airport for the first time this year. The major advantage of this airport is that it is quite small even though it takes international flights. Procedures are very quick and therefore a great improvement on most UK airports. Bad news if you are a smoker - there are no smoking areas in the airport and be careful not to proceed through security as you can't then leave the building. Food is reasonable if you like fast food (pizza, burgers and italian ) but shops are appalling and are not set up for purchases of alcohol and tobacco which are very restricted. Moreover you have to buy these before moving through to embarcation where you will be ...  Read the complete review

I am very familiar to the inside of Bologna airport, thanks to the striking french and italian air traffic controllers. Generally, it's a small but functional airport, however, there isn't very much after security in the way of food to buy and a teeny duty free shop that is quite expensive, so make sure, if you go, that anything that needs to be bought, is bought before you go through the security area. Also, there aren't really very many seats in the airport so if you find one, guard it! This just relates to the section of the airport which goes to non-schengen countries (including the UK, of course!), the other terminal is bigger. On the positive side, the .  Read the complete review
