Bouremouth Airport (BOH)

We flew out from Bourntemouth Airport on a holiday charter flight with Olympic Air earlier this month. We got a surprisingly good deal on the flights and accommodation, the only slight downside being that we had to fly from an airport that isn't exactly near us. I haven't visited this small, local airport before and it was certainly a novel experience. I wasn't aware there were still small airports like this open to the public in the UK! At present (June 2009) Bournemouth Airport is in the process of being enlarged / updated; no doubt it will look much more like a standard airport when the work is completed. BOURNEMOUTH AIRPORT I am very lucky as I live in Dorset so I am close to Bournemouth Airport. I would highly recommend it to anyone local. Obviously if you live in London you wouldn't fly from Bournemouth. I will attempt to describe the place fully to you and if you can imagine a very small cosy place with a great atmosphere. You can buy tax-free goods, as there is a little shop. There is a café that serves food at reasonable prices. There is a comfortable bar area for those nervous flyers. Bournemouth airport is indeed very small and currently undergoing renovations. I would however say if you are just looking for a few days away in the sun. It is ideal . Anyone who lives in dorset then i would reccomend using ryanair to fly to spain from bournemouth airport. There is usually ample parking facilities and there is a taxi rank directly outside the airport. The good thing about the airport being small is it is easy to find where you are going. Right now (early 2009) Bournemouth airport is going through big rennovation and a new terminal building is being built. So for now it is served by temporary mobile 'huts' and has one 'departure lounge/arrivals' area about 50 metres squared at the most with two screens showing the flight information! It really is bare bones basic at the moment and you do not want to be stuck here for any amount of time...It would be basically like sleeping in a glorified shed! The flights from Bournemouth are still quite limited. Ryanair have flights to Dublin, Barcelona and Alicante and Easyjet have flights to Geneva.
