Advantages: For locals its ideal and has the necessities

Disadvantages: Small and not to many facilities

Bournemouth airport is indeed very small and currently undergoing renovations. I would however say if you are just looking for a few days away in the sun. It is ideal . Anyone who lives in dorset then i would reccomend using ryanair to fly to spain from bournemouth airport. There is usually ample parking facilities and there is a taxi rank directly outside the airport.
The good thing about the airport being small is it is easy to find where you are going.

Checking in ***
Check in is right infront of you as you walk through the doors of the airport it is very simple as there are only 2 airlines that fly from the airport, the main is ryanair but the spanish airline palmair also fly from here.
Online check in is available with ryanair so this also makes the boarding easier. if you have no luggage for the hold you just go to check in give them your reference and then they give you your boarding card.

Facilities ***

The facilities are indeed what you would expect from such a small airport. There are the neccesities. a Cafe a bar and toilets.. ATM's which dispense both GBP and the euro. the bar is very reasonably priced as is the cafe that sells both hot and cold food of a decent standard for an airport.
There are no macdonalds and other well known restaurants that you can find in the bigger airport

Overall **

If you are close to the area and find a cheap flight then there are certainly no major reasons to avoid it. You go to the airport to get to your final destination. therefore the 2 hours you are there shouldnt affect you to much.
I wouldnt go out of your way for the experience of going there like some do for heathrow. But certainly dont avoid it just because you have been told its a shed. Yes its not the most up to date but it does the job

Summary: no need to avoid it... ideally located for people in dorset and surroundings
