The Colombo airport is like a small town bus terminal, but it is convinient comapred to several other similar sized airports in the region. The arrival/ departure areas are clean and well maintained. Customs/ Immigration are also good. One funny thing is, the Immigration officers (they sit in pairs) wont utter a word most of the time, and stamp your passports. would take about 10 minutes to clear Immigration , and get out of the building. Duty-free shops are OK. No big selection, but a few stores, maily catering to the returning residents. Few airports in the world, where they have duty-free shops for incoming passengers. sound wierd, ha? Ground transportaion to the city, sucks. There are signs for taxis, but you hardly find anyone sitting int he counter.. There must be some sheduled bus/train service to the city, but I havent seen any buses/ trains leaving from the airport. Security is very tight (at least, it appears that way) with gun-totting soldiers everywhere in the vicinity of the airport. You have to go through 4-5 military check-points before arriving at the airport building, when you fly out Colombo. Airport tax is 500 bucks.. (about 7 dollars..)
