Advantages: Small airport feel
Disadvantages: Taxis
Having been through Dublin Airport 6 times in as many weeks I feel that I am reasonably well positioned to say a few words. First impressions on landing is that this is an easy airport to progress through, with few if any formalities, customs walk through and no passport checking that I have ever seen – except for those outside the EU. Building works in the main terminal building adds a level of disarray to the place, but has never caused me any problems. Staff are friendly, helpful and very approachable. Taxi’s are a nightmare – and a big issue in Dublin at the moment, not enough to cover the business growth in the area and political battles ensued. Don’t be surprised if you have to wait 45 minutes to get a taxi, if you book one to meet your flight, expect it NOT to be there, you probably won’t be disappointed then. Food in the airport is airport food, McDonalds, a pizza outlet, Irish sandwiches (what are Irish sandwiches?), and a quieter, more expensive restaurant to the left as you go up the escalator. In the departure area there is almost no seating, so if flights are delayed my advice is go through to the boarding gates and use the seating there. Limited “duty free” shopping exists if you wish to partake.
