With the Football World Cup fast approaching, many travelers will be visiting South Africa. The new and improved O. R. Tambo International Airport will be the first place of greeting to crowds of football fans from all over the world. Formerly known as Johannesburg International Airport which was changed in 2006 to O. R. Tambo International Airport. It was renamed in respect to Oliver Reginald Tambo (he sadly passed away in 1993), who was a great influence in contributing to the liberation of South Africa. I have travelled through O. R. I visited Johannesburg International Airport about a year ago, and was not disappointed. I was there as I was unfortunate enough to have to spend five hours there, but was it really unfortunate? Once inside there were clearly marked signs indicating where to go if one was either catching a connecting flight or leaving the airport to go to Jo'burg. The check-in desk for connecting flights was very quick and, despite the large number of people, and the seemingly very few people behind the ... Read the complete review

The airport is located 15 miles (24 km) northeast of downtown Johannesburg. Taxis are located outside the arrivals area. Fare to Johannesburg is about 170 rand. You have a choice of a regular car or a minibus, a 12-seater that will pick up other passengers. The mini-bus is about a tenth the cost of a taxi, but also much less speedy and less reliable. Regular taxi travel time to the centre will be 25-35 minutes. Private bus companies operate services to the city and other areas. You can get information and purchase tickets at their counters in the international arrivals hall. The bus fare to the center will be about 25 rand and the trip will take ...
