Advantages: Small enough so that you don't have to arrive hours ahead of your flight

Disadvantages: Haven't found any

I have used Liverpool John Lennon airport frequently over the past 2 years, both when travelling to the UK from my home elsewhere and since living in the UK due to its close proximity. The airport is easy to access from the motorway and small enough not to have to arrive 2 hours before a flight. Hire cars can be easily picked, a 5 minute walk from the terminal and should you wish to leave your car at the airport, there are numerous choices, some very close to the terminal. Do take advantage of the internet reservation of car park space, it really is much, much cheaper that way, just be sure to park in the right park. The carpark attendants are not very accommodating when you make a mistake.
Inside the terminal, check in is simple and easy ... there never seem to be lengthy queue. Once through security, where it can bottle neck, there is a decent choice of cafes, shops etc., to pass the time. Gates are never really far away, so need to sit at the gate until you are called.

Summary: An excellent choice of airport, especially for low-cost carriers
