London City Airport (LCY)

This is my favourite airport in the UK because it is so efficient. It is designed for busy business people who do not have a lot of time to waste, so you never have endless queues to go through the check-in counter or security checks. The restaurants and shops are sufficient, but you will not be hanging around the departure lounge area for long if your flight is on time. There is an EAT in the main entrance area and a decent restaurant in the departure lounge. The staff are surprisingly friendly for an airport. London City Airport is my nearest airport to me as I live in inside of London. I have used the all other airports in London such as Luton, Gatwick and Stansted. I used London City Airport when I was travelling to Swizterland, please note that the airport is not 24 hours as I had assumed, it opens at around 6.00am. It is not too far too get to from the A13 and A406. If you are looking for the nearest airport to central London then choose this one as this the closest to central London unlike stansted or luton. Personally I think that City airport is a very good and efficient airport, but I am not sure if it will be able to maintain the current level of standard. City airport is in the East of London and the best way to get there is from Bank via DLR, you cannot miss it since the station is called City airport. It is very compact, with one entrance for arrivals and departures, and still, it has a good daily volume. After few years of air travel from Heathrow and Gatwick, I had developped a strong feeling of reject for the UK airport. Even luton, which in my view is too far, and Stanstead, did not impress me. It came as a pleasant surprize to fly from City airport. I have recently started a new position in my company and there is a lot of liasion with our office in Zurich, and to a minor degree in Geneve. Flying out or into London is not pleasant. I have Heathrow, and also the regional airports are surely not a pleasant experience. When I fly on business, I try to go via Gatwick as opposed to Heathrow, whenever possible. However, City airport is a different experience and is surely my favourite airport. It is called City Airport, but it is not exactly in the City of Lonodn.
