Advantages: Not too big & impersonal

Disadvantages: Long way form London

Gatwick is London's second airport, or it is supposed to be, then why is it so far from London?

The Links to the airport are very good, rail & bus links are frequent but at a cost, as is the parking. I know the fees have to be set at a level to prevent holiday makers leaving cars in a short term car park. I once had the misfortune of taking an unacompanied minor for a flight to Spain that had a 12 hr delay, the airline would not let me leave before the flight had taken off! If I hadn't had a bank card on me god knows what would have happened!

The proximity to the M25 should in theory have made access very quick from outer London but less said about that the better.

Gripes over, I actualy enjoy my time at this airport, there is plenty of shops landside & food & drink outlets to suit anyone. The TV lounges can be a godsend if waiting for a delayed flight. If yoy are an outgoing passenger the Tax Free shopping is well laid out, you just walk around the perimeter.

The monorail between the two teminals is also fun to use for kids if you are there to meet a delayed flight with kids in tow.

I personaly prefer Gatwick to Heathrow even thought I live a stones throw from the later, if only it was nearer!

We live in Shetland, so to go anywhere we usually have to head through London. Gatwick is definitely our preferred option because we like to overnight in Crawley, it's got everything we don't have without being a city. I also find it harder to get lost in Gatwick;)
