Advantages: easy to find, offers some good flights

Disadvantages: doesn't fly to many destinations, not very big

When i was travelling around Australia this year, i was in North Queensland in a small place called Bowen which is about an hour and a half to two hours from Mackay airport, which happened to be the closest airport. I wanted a flight to Melbourne from there, and there's a new airline called Tiger Airways in Australia which was doing special offers for flights from Mackay to Melbourne in April when i was there, they may still be doing the special offer because they are trying to promote their airline because it's very new.
The airport is located in the industrial area of the city off the main road. I knew it was going to be a small airport because it only does regional flights, but it looks bigger from the outside than what it is on the inside, when your inside the airport it's really not big at all. There are only a few check-in desks in a small space located on the far right end of the airport, I think they could have a few more desks if they wanted but it's probably not needed as the airport only caters for a small amount of pasengers.
The four major airlines that are operating in Australia use Mackay Airport, they are QantasLink, Jetstar, Virgin Blue and Tigers Airways.
QantasLink flies to airports in Brisbane, Cairns, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Townsville from Mackay. Jetstar only flies to Brisbane, Tiger Airways only flies to Melbourne and finally Virgin Blue only goes to Brisbane and Sydney via this airport.
The airport is only a regional airport so it doesn't do any international flights, and the airport is open seven days a week from 5.15am to 9pm. The facilities available in the terminal are Bistro & Bar where you can buy hot food, snacks, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks, and also sweet foods such as ice cream. There are also other facilities including an ATM, which provides access to every major bank and cards, they also have good disabled facilities and a observation area.
I would reccomend this airport if you are flying to most of the airports in Queensland and any that i have listed. It's not a bad airport, it's very clean and has the right ammount of facilities that you need even though it's not that big.

Summary: A good airport if your travelling within Australia
