Advantages: Good transport links, good information staff

Disadvantages: A little expensive to use the navette bus, poor array of shops and food outlets understocked

Marseille airport in the south of France consists of two terminals, terminal 1 being the major terminal and terminal 2 being the no-frills Easy-jet and Ryanair terminal. Without a car it can be reached by train from Marseille Gare Saint-Charles or by the Navette bus, which you can buy an 8.50 euro single to the train station (about 20 minutes), where you can continue on to the other areas of the region.

If you are travelling from terminal 2 I would suggest that you go to terminal 1 whilst you are waiting to board because there is only a small cafe and nothing else and going through security there is one shop and another cafe. Not exactly somewhere you want to spend an hour and a half.

Terminal 1 is slightly better but if you are arriving at the airport late at night the cafe tends to run out of food (expensive food!) and so you are better taking something before you go. There is a gift shop here before you go through security and this is good for buying souvenirs from the Provence area. However if would also recommend getting these before as they are severely overpriced. The shops in the departure gates are not too bad and are worth a little extra time to take a look at, especially if there are any gifts you have forgotten.

The airport is very easy to navigate around and its difficult to get lost. There is a taxi rank outside, a bureau de change and two car hire companies near terminal 1. The information desk staff speak excellent English and are always polite and helpful so you are never stuck running around looking for transport.

Summary: Try not to get there too early as you will be bored!
