Milan Linate Airport (LIN) ... used for domestic and short-haul international flights, with over 9 million passengers in 2005. This name comes from the small village where it is located. Its real name is "Airport Enrico Forlanini", from the Italian inventor and aereonautical pioneer born in Milan. Linate airport buildings are located in the Segrate Municipality, and the field is located for a large part in the Peschiera Borromeo Municipality. It was built in the 1930s (and completely rebuilt in the 1950s and in the 1980s), when the Taliedo Airport (located 1 km southern inside Milan borders, and one of the world first aerodrome and then airport) became too small for the commercial traffic.

Milano Linate Airport is owned and operated by SEA-Aeroporti di Milano (like Malpensa): www.sea-aeroportimilano.it It has recently been part of a big debate whether all flights should have been brought to Malpensa or not. Alitalia claims that without taking more flights off Linate it cannot create its own Malpensa hub, but at the same time the remaining European competitors claim that by shutting down or taking many flights off Linate, they'd lose a lot of market as well. Linate is six miles (10 km) south of the centre of Milan. There is a tourist information office in the central rail station. Taxi fare to the centre will be about 24,000 to 28,000 lira. Travel time will be 20 minutes, but up to 40 minutes during the morning peak travel hours. BUS SEAV buses leave for the Stazione Centrale every 20 to 30 minutes, from 6 A.M. to 11 P.M., but may be available at other times to meet arriving flights. The fare is about 3,000 lira. There are taxis at the central station that you can take to your destination.
