Nadi Airport - the best welcome ever (Nadi International Airport (NAN))

Advantages: Everyone in the airport is so friendly and wants to help you with everything.

Disadvantages: With all your bags, the heat is not nice, and the wait is quite long throughout.

When we arrived into Fiji after something like an eleven hour flight, we were rather disappointed to see that it was cloudy, with no sign of sun anywhere! As soon as we got out of the plane however the humidity hit us like a brick wall!! We had to walk quite a way in the open air to the main building, but despite the heat, it was really rather enjoyable. The airport is situated in the most beautiful surroundings; I was just in awe at the scenery, there were these spectacular huge green tropical hills surrounding the airport, it was wonderful! Even just being in the airport, you had a sense of being in a tropical paridise!

When we made our way into the terminal building, we discovered there was only one room for all of us to check in and go through passport control, and it wasn't very big. The whole room was filled with people zigzagging across the room. The waiting experience was made a whole lot better by being welcomed to Fiji by a Fijian band, singing the happiest songs! The queue did take a while but it wasn't too dreadful and they at least had air conditioning inside.

Through passport control, we went to collect our bags; this area was huge and filled with shops, far more than you'd expect for what we assumed was a tiny airport. There were also lots of travel agents, who were most helpful, and airport staff just waiting to help you. They all looked so happy in their flowery shirts and their flowers around their neck. They helped us to find where the taxis were, there was a bit of a wait but we were out of there soon enough through the glorious Fijian countryside.

The whole experience was fabulous!!
