Narita International Tokyo Airport (NRT)

Description: Narita International Airport (成田国際空港, Narita Kokusai Kūkō?) (IATA: ... more
Narita International Tokyo Airport (NRT) ... NRT, ICAO: RJAA) is an international airport located in Narita, Chiba, Japan, in the eastern portion of the Greater Tokyo Area. It is located 60 km from the downtown core. Narita handles the majority of international passenger traffic to and from Japan, and is also a major connecting point for air traffic between Asia and the Americas. It is the second-busiest passenger airport in Japan, busiest air freight hub in Japan, and third-busiest air freight hub in the world. It serves as the main international hub of Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways, and as an Asian regional hub for Northwest Airlines and United Airlines. Under Japanese law, it is classified as a first class airport. The airport was known as New Tokyo International Airport (新東京国際空港 Shin-Tōkyō Kokusai Kūkō) until 2004. While Tokyo is the source of much of Narita Airport's traffic, the airport is located far from central Tokyo (1 hour by the fastest train) and in a different prefecture. Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport), located in Tokyo proper, is the busiest airport in Japan and the fourth-busiest in the world, even though it handles very little international traffic.

There's not really much to say about an airport. After all it's not a place one would want to spend along time, just a means of being transported from one destination to another. While no where near the size of Heathrow, Narita airport is big, spacious and clean. The toilets are cleaned to a high standard, there are a few restaurants and shops but the choice is limited. Premium Review Lacking in good shops and restaurants (169 words)

I've been to the airport many times and I'm always disappointed. There are so few restaurants and shops that you will find that you have nothing to do if you are early or your flight is delayed. Yes, it is clean, efficient and the staff are great. But this is Japan! Everywhere is clean, efficient and has great service in Japan. There are so many better airports in Japan, such as the excellent Centrair in Nagoya which has a host of restaurants and even a hot-spring type public bath. For such a busy international airport, I don't know why nothing has been done over the years to improve it. The Narita Express train to central Tokyo is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Narita International Tokyo Airport (NRT): Narita Airport, Japan (100 words)

This is a lovely airport, plenty of shops, good duty free and is the best place to change your money on the way home. There is a small bus terminus where umpteen free hotel buses pick up very frequently, so you could hop a free lift to wherever you want to go in the surrounding area. The staff are friendly and efficient, and will help you if you get stuck or lost. Remember to pay your airport tax at the machine after you have checked your case in on your return, and don't forget to buy your souvenir Saki! ...  Read the complete review
