I've been to the airport many times and I'm always disappointed. There are so few restaurants and shops that you will find that you have nothing to do if you are early or your flight is delayed.

Yes, it is clean, efficient and the staff are great. But this is Japan! Everywhere is clean, efficient and has great service in Japan. There are so many better airports in Japan, such as the excellent Centrair in Nagoya which has a host of restaurants and even a hot-spring type public bath.

For such a busy international airport, I don't know why nothing has been done over the years to improve it.

The Narita Express train to central Tokyo is good and always on time, but it does get quite crowded. If you've come off a long-haul flight and all you want to do is crash out for an hour or so, I recommend using the Friendly Airport Limousine (yes, it is called that) bus service.

Summary: There are better airports in Tokyo
