Advantages: Quick, efficient

Disadvantages: Flew at a quiet time...don't know about busy times

This review is based on one trip out of JFK. However, as I have flown out of Boston so many times, which is a real mess, the dramatically improved offering from JFK has prompted me to write this review.

Also, I flew out in a midweek evening, when the airport may have been quietest. However, it was much easier to reach by car from upstate New York than Boston is. Roadworks, sure, but manageable ones, and ones that are being finished. Car hire shuttle buses are immediately available, and the journey to the terminals easy round a well organised raodway system. There is an air train being built to NY - JFK is on long island not far from La Guardia. The air train still has a couple of years before completion.

Check in was easy at Terminal 7 - a smallish terminal seemingly dominated by BA with a huge club lounge and eating before you fly. It was the security checking that is one of the biggest contrasts to Boston. There one scanner is frequently used for two Jumbo jet loads of passengers causing the biggest shambles I have seen at any airport. Here at JFK no less than 3 scanners were being used for a trickle of passengers.

SHopping is limited to one large shop in this terminal, but walks to planes are very short (Heathrow this isn't).

I have had no chance to experience arrivals as this can be variable at US airports (an area in which, perversely, Boston is rather good), nor have I tried JFK when busy. However BA have just added an 11pm flight which is very convienent and allows JFK and Heathrow to be experienced at quiet times, so try to fly out of busy hours and this is as pleasnat an experience as airports anywhere have to offer.
