Never having used this airport before we bagged cheap Ryanair flights and rather than book our usual departure from Manchester airport, we decided "Hey we're in Sheffield, let's go from Doncaster/Sheffield airport-should be easy to get to". Oh dear. On trying to get a taxi transfer and being quoted £80, it began to dawn on me just how far from Sheffield the airport actually is! If money is not a consideration, then driving to the airport and using their parking would be a fine solution. However, with no car and no-one available to drive us, we were panicking! So, we all know where this airport is. We know that the terminal has a few bars, duty free shopping, car hire and car parking. Robin Hood Airport is one of the UK's newest airports and is located a few miles out of Doncaster at the former RAF base at Finningley. The airport has one of the longest run ways in the country, and therefore has a variety of flights arriving and departing on a daily basis, including long haul flights to places such as the Caribbean and USA. A full list of destinations can be found on the airports website: www.robinhoodairport.com The airport is not the easiest to get to by road, as it is not that close to any major motorways, the nearest ones are the M18 and M180 which can be accessed from the M1, A1(M) and M62. The airport is clearly signposted ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Fly from Robin Hood (298 words)

Robin Hood airport, one of England's newest airports. Firstly it's name. There seem to be a fashion for naming airports after local legends. John Lennon at Liverpool, George Best at Belfast, but Robin Hood at Doncaster??? Once you are over that apparent odd choice of name what about the airport itself. It is the former RAF Finningley and as a former RAF base it did come with an excellent runway, but no proper terminal building. It was a bold step to turn it into a commercial airport and although a new terminal has been built the facillities are not yet up to a main airport standard. Having said that the terminal building, while not being ...  Read the complete review
